What do you guys do with your bantam eggs?

Hatch them !

Yup! Hatch them! I just had a broody hen hatch 5 bantam eggs this past Sunday. They are so tiny, and so stinkin CUTE!

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone has a great day today, it's going to be another hot one.

CSB: the only "home" remedy I can tell you is: go to a health food store and get olive leaf extract and/or oregano oil (they come in little glass bottles with droppers) and take one or both (half a dropper full is what I take) at least three times a day. If you do it at the beginning of a cold, it only lasts about two to three days, but starting it now, will at least ease the symptoms and shorten the "sick" time. Be warned: they both taste TERRIBLE, but I figure that horrible taste is worth the benefits of a shorter cold.

Wow! Thanks for this info Matt. I will plan on going. Is this show as big as the one in Winston a couple weeks ago? Are there usually folks selling things outside like they were there? Thanks!! Angela

Good Morning folks!! It's a special weekend around here (yes the weekend starts today for us!!)!! DD turns ONE tomorrow - can you believe that some of you were patiently counting down with me this time last year??

I cannot believe time has FLOWN by! We are starting our celebration today because today is a play-date of sorts with Beth!! The girls will get to see some friends (maybe I should keep them locked up...Beth has <gasps> BOYS), deliver some delicious smelling cookies and what not.

Tomorrow DD has a check up - the doctor's office that refused to see us as a patient called to remind us of her birthday and that they want to do a check up...this will be her last one there, but I am glad as they are going to go over the report from Duke Hospital. It's nice doing this part with the doctors who started the whole fiasco!! Then, then we get to start checking out other doctors - but I'll worry about that....LATER. Hehe. I have the "smash" cake made and was highly disappointed when I offered it to her to taste test/try out...she PICKED at it...no smashing, no mess....just picked!

Either her sister is rubbing off on her, OR I have somehow bred two pretty pretty princesses!! LOL. For now we'll blame the sister and not the breeding...LOL
Anyway, for her birthday, we are going to be setting 12 eggs under our broody and I cannot wait for her to experience the whole hatching process...it STILL fascinates DD1 and myself, so hopefully she will be just as excited!!
Have a great day everyone!!

HOW CAN SHE BE ONE?!! Happy happy birthday, little sweetie!!!

You all are smart not to lower the prices of your birds! I haven't sold enough to have encountered that, but I feel the same way. People can pay for quality or not - its their choice.

Congratulations on your first egg hatching!! What was it?

I have a question on a broody hen.....

My Cream Legbar hen has gone broody twice now - she is the worst one for it! Anyway, how long will she do this? I take the eggs out from under her every day, I take her outside and put her down far away from the coup but she always ends up going back in there. I finally decided I would let her sit on one of my Swedish Flower Hen eggs but the next day, she had jumped the nest box and switched to a nest box that had more eggs in it! So, I figured I would just take the eggs and NOT let her set on them.

I have hatched 3 of her eggs (last week) so I know it has been at least 21 days. In fact, 2 more of her eggs are supposed to hatch Saturday so it has been far beyond 21 days. Will she stay like this forever? I really don't want to put her in a separate cage unless I have to...???

And now, one of my lemon cuckoo orphington hens is doing it! Aaaargh!

Thanks for any help.....

Ebay! If you want something locally, you could try a health food store like Whole Foods should have it. My husband uses it when he is trimming/shoeing horses as it really does help horses who are nervous or unsettled.

Good Morning everyone! Hope it's a great Thursday! The weekend is just around the corner. Yesterday I had some really cute crosses hatch. One was a cochin bantam/sultan cross and the other an americauna/leghorn cross. Also had my first cochin bantam in that bunch, they are cute as hatchlings!! Ready to clean the bator out today and start all over again (mind you I have 3 bators, lol)!! Which also reminds me that I need to candle the eggs in bator #2. Anyway here's pics of the little crosses. The light one is the am cross and the dark is the sultan cross.

get a dog crate and put her in it with the eggs you want her to hatch and some food and water. I gave up long ago trying to break my broody silkies. They will sit for 3 months straight if they don't get a chick!! Some of mine will even steal chicks with out being broody
