I think this Silkie hen is his all time fav. Cocoa-Puff comes to us when we call her name to go out to scratch and run the yard. I get a good laugh from it, because I don't think she can see me, but hears my voice when she does.

...and this is from an epasode of, "Chicks gone wild!" We love that little Cocoa-Puff

I look for ward to saying hello to any that make it out to the WCA today. I'll miss seeing you, Hollow. I have not gotten out there for a bit now. There is one California White in the mix that is going (good layer). I hate to say good-by to the Silkie boys, but, alas, they are batchelors. BTW.... Silkies look dreadful when wet!

Chris, DS-1,

gave them a bath because we let them range and scratch. They liked the warm blow dryer though. Off to WCA they go!

Jacob, DS-2, likes his silkie hens. They are not so big, and he can hold and love on them.
edit: Sorry, Jacob said to put her name... Hanna.

Everyone have a great day!!!!
Love Coca Puff and the "Chicks gone Wild" . I needed a laugh today!

Went to the Tractor Supply on Saturday for the flock swap (f.s.)... Everytime I decide to go to a F.S. it always is a dreary day. Maybe the rain clouds just follow me. Nah, Im just kidding. It was kinda slow out there, but it did pick up at about 11. Sold a few birds. Pried my sons hands away from the X-Box controller to go learn how to mingle with people, so that was good. Did anyone go the the Cedar Creek Flock Swap? I heard they had a pretty good turn out. Ready for some sun again. A week of this weather is giving me sun defiencany!

I went visiting to the FS at Cedar Creek, then went to TSC for feed pickup. If I'd known, I would have come to introduce myself! Lots of folks at the CC FS, and it seems they did well.

OOhh...I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on this as well!!

Chicken Hatch latest update:  Mama, I believe, is finished sitting.  She was off the nest today sitting in the grass with her SIX new babies.  There are (I believe...one is questionable) 2 English Orpingtons (technically 3, but one did not make it...), 2 SFH (one of these is questionable as it's not as brown as the other one, but has more yellow...so I am unsure if it's one or not, but I am saying it is...LOL) and 2 Super Blues (one of these is HUGE compared to the others...just big and fluffy and yellow!!).  Not THAT bad of a hatch rate since this is a first time broody mama.  7/12 eggs hatched...DH said if we had an incubator, we could have thrown the other eggs in there to finish...  LOL, I think he wants us to get an incubator...so yes, I'd like to know what SMALL (say max of 10 eggs, but able to do duck eggs too) incubator would you all recommend?!?

Brinsea eco 20. it is small, compact, not bulky so it doesn't take up much space. And very easy, I got it from Brinsea, flipped it on and began hatching, the only thing I have to do Is turn, the whole incubator three times a day and add water during lockdown. The incubator has sides that are shaped like a hexagon, so instead of turning eggs induvidualy you just turn the bator. Or you can spring for the turner. What I like best of all is the base, the egg and the bars that hold the egg, can all go in the dishwasher! Or are a sinch to hand wash. Also the top is all clear and very easy to see.
Good Sunday morning to all. Hope you have safe day at WCA those that are going. I was thinking about maybe getting an incubator. What is a good one to get? Seen many different ones and hard diffrent pro and cons. Not looking to hatch a bunch of eggs, just thinking about trying to hatch some when i will need to replenish my girls in a little while.

I went to the cedar creek one. it was pretty good minus a few things, which cant be helped. It started slow due to the mist, but picked up. Sold all but the dun Sumatra and golden pheasant, so I am happy

. I had fun talking and seeing everyone again.

Bennie, what breed was that monster bird you bought again? (I think you should stick him by the fence on the old lady neighbors side

NH and Chicken dad my best bator for small hatches are silkies

yes, i have 5 silkie hens and i think 4 of them have sat at one time or another. last time i tried to hatch some i had 2 that kept switching eggs between them and only got one to hatch out of about 14 or so eggs. next time i will seperate them from the rest of the girls, think they kept stealing/eating some of the eggs. that was my first time trying to hatch. i'm borrowing a friends bator now trying to hatch more eggs, hopefully they'll hatch around the 17th or so.

Thanks it was nice to meet you too!!!

Though I am super mad, I thought the birds were inspected when they came in to get their lot number. We didn't get there in time to go look at the chickens before auction and didn't have the best seats so we went by what we were told. A barred rock laying pullet we bought (that even said 10 months- laying on sale ticket) is clearly an 8-10 week old cockeral!!!
