Thanks it was nice to meet you too!!!

Though I am super mad, I thought the birds were inspected when they came in to get their lot number. We didn't get there in time to go look at the chickens before auction and didn't have the best seats so we went by what we were told. A barred rock laying pullet we bought (that even said 10 months- laying on sale ticket) is clearly an 8-10 week old cockeral!!!

Also, the first pair of 2 laying RIR hens definitely aren't old enough to be hens, and I'm pretty confident they are both cockerals as well.

Besides my son's guinea pigs I think we spent $127 on ROOSTERS!!!

I just took the auctioneers word for what he was saying, pretty messed up sellers are lying about the gender of their birds to make money and leave someone stuck with a bunch of roosters they bought as hens :(

Well that sucks..
The boxes are inspected for sick birds. The auctioneer just reads what is on the list. He isn't even there until a few minutes before the start of the auction.
The fault goes to the people selling the birds for lying. You can call them (WCA) and give them your ticket # and see what they say. They will know who is selling and should take care of it. The folks that run the auction are REALLY nice and want the customers to be happy and come back.

Everyone was SO friendly!
Besides the whole probably having a car full of roosters thing we had a great time!!!
We just learned the hard way we need to get there early to check out the birds ourselves and get better seats!!! (Actually bring our own seats!)
I sent them a message on facebook and they told me that the seller would contact me directly, I guess they gave him my phone number????
I really hope the rest of these don't turn out to be roosters too.
We're over our city limit of 10, but my neighbors don't mind because the free eggs and they're quiet. I think I'll be getting some calls over a bunch of roos hollering at 6am!!!

sorry that happened, I bought today sight unseen as well. But didn't end up as bad as you, just one blue andy (out of a pair) aint an andy but might be a blue Sumatra (will have to wait till it grows some more to see) I like the swaps better cause it is easier to see the birds and you can talk to the people who are selling them. But you have ones who will lie at these flock swaps as well to make a buck. All I can say is know what you are looking for so you know what they look like at different stages of life and get to the place early to have a good look. Hope you do come back, if you want you can put up pics and we can try to help you guess on what you have

Haha that is a good idea, but I wouldn't be able to lie about it so we'd definitely be losing money because no one will pay for a cockeral what I thought I was paying on a laying hen. :(
But at least they'd be out of my yard....

Ooooh I saw those, they were really pretty!!!
I just saw on WCA's facebook page a photo of 3 buff lavenders, I don't know how I missed them at the auction.
I will go take some pics, I would LOVE feedback on what I ended up with!!!

Also, anyone know anything about sexing Welsummer and Hamburg chicks? I have 12 of one and 7 of the other. I'm pretty sure the Welsummers are all males because they look about 3 weeks old or so and all have super thick legs. I have 2 female Welsummers in my brooder from a hatchery that are 3 weeks right now and they're legs and feet are much smaller.

Apparently they decided they didn't want to be in the coop and have taken to roosting on my patio!
Their feathers are wet because they were running around in the rain instead of going inside, so that could make it more difficult.
ALL are the size of my 3 month old pullets, and smaller than my 6 month old pullets and 18 month old hens.

Okay so here's what I got, give me your expert opinions....

"10 month old LAYING Barred Rock" No comb, no wattles, bright red it's a cockeral my guess would be 8 weeks....

"Pair of Comet Hens" About the size of my 3 month old pullets so if these are over a year they are TINY as my hens and even 6 month laying pullets are bigger. No signs of crowing. Also, were debeaked (which I don't condone at all) and they never mentioned this in the auction. Guesses???

Pair of RIR hens (same size as the others shown and my 3 month old pullets)

This is a pair of black australorp "chicks", was supposed to be 1 male & 1 female, but whatever they are they are the same sex.... No age given

And the straight run Welsummer & Hamburg chicks
