I would say they would crow at about three or four months of age. Were we live we can't have a rooster, not really allowed chickens either. It's been 11 yrs now having them. We had gotten two Cochin buff chicks, not sexed, it was a risk in case we had a rooster, well we did have one in the mix. We kept him hoping he wouldn't crow. and he never did. it was such a great experience having him. We hatched chicks and watched him with the ladies. He was so passive and beautiful. He is the one in the picture in my name. We had him for four wonderful years. He was luck, not sure if that happens very often. You might get lucky and he might not crow. . Keep him until he does.

So we unfortunately ended up with a roo. I had originally asked this question in previous posts, but he hadn't started to crow yet. At what age do they typically begin? My husband doesn't want to get rid of him but we live in Downtown Cary so we can't keep him.

alot depends on the bird and if there is a more dominate rooster around, since you don't he can start now. I have read of some starting younger than 10 weeks of age

First off... YAY CONGRATULATIONS LUKE and Family!!

I must have been posting around the same time as Hollow to have missed it!! Still...exciting!

Secondly...Good Morning everyone!! I am hating the night shift that the hubby is working this week and the kids hate it as well. First time I have had to deal with nightmares from BOTH children, up all night long, etc... I think by this weekend, I will be dragging myself along. Either that, or it will be GREAT preparation for the new one to come (thus meaning she can come EARLY

LOL) - so I don't go all soft in my "old" age!!

I hope everyone has a great day - I am looking for a few days of warm DRY weather so I can get some last minute things planted!! ARG. Sadly, this deluge has taken with it the lives of 36 tomato plants...RIP tomatoes, I was dreaming of a nice THICK JUICY tomato slice with bacon and lettuce and whipped avocado...mmmm.... Guess we will see if the nursery where we get feed has some extra plants...LOL.

Chick Feed Question: If mama is raising the chicks, should I worry about getting "special" chick food, or continue to feed them what I have been? If I get them chick feed, do I get starter or what?? They were hatched the first week of May so they are roughly 3 weeks old...I've been giving them layer feed (because it's what I have) but they are also free ranged (just restricted to a certain area)...I need to pick up feed this weekend and was wondering what would be best for them?!?

Hi guys!

I thought the chickens were getting better, but they started looking bad again.
Now 4 of them smell like roadkill. They had an off smell last week when we started antibiotics, along with the mucus, rattling, and a couple with eye foam I thought it was Coryza.
The injectable antibiotics seemed like they were working.
Now 2 have like foam in the corners of their mouth (none in eyes) and they STINK, the only way to describe it is roadkill in the summer when you smell the decomposing flesh.

My husband is gone for a month and we get zero contact, so I have no way of finding out the numbers to the vets in his unit that helped me last time.

SUGGESTIONS????

So sorry they relapsed

pull your CL ads and quarantine your flock.............
you may want to start with Tylan......I would do oral
but some other folks prefer injection.....both will work.
It sounds like your flock will need to remain a closed
flock, as in you never sell or give away any birds since
they would be carriers......you can always add birds
but they too would be considered carries even if they
don't get sick. Hope you find a vet to help you even better

They can start crowing between 2-3 months, depends on the individual.
