Actually, I haven't been keeping a tally as I have sold some off. Last time I counted I had 150, so this is good! And I only have a few (ahem) eggs in incubators...both mine and Beth's. Still, I'm pleased with current numbers. I'd like to keep it down to about 100 chickens, once I get breeding groups organized. I'll end up keeping two trios of turkeys. There are 14 more crosses that will be sold, and then I have 20 Royal Palm poults that I will choose future breeders from. I'll keep two breeding groups of coturnix, and the rest go in the freezer. I already cut the rabbits back to one trio. Things are getting organized and simplified here.

I think.

Okay. I counted. All of them. I sold more than I tallied. I'm down to 110 chickens and 35 turkeys. Quail are at 24. Until the next hatch. The front layer house has 45 on one side and 43 on the other. I'll be removing 11 Barnevelders to the auction this weekend, but moving the 15 from grow-out in. And I have seven in the house that will go into the Juvenile Detention Center with the poults tomorrow. My niece who came back from Georgia with me will help me build quail cages, so the coturnix will move outside. Then only the button quail will be left inside.

This works! I still have some cockerels to weed down, but they need to grow out a bit more first so I can choose well. Then the extra Wellies and Ameraucanas will go, too. One NN will be examined by Beth on Thursday and may go with her. The remaining RIR pullets will go as soon as the next age group starts laying well. I'm just starting to find pullet eggs.

I am slowly getting my flock the way I want it. Yay!
Examined? Pfft... She will be coming home ... I love NNs.

Hey everyone, haven't been on in a while, been really busy, got so over run with birds and rabbits. Had one lady drop off two meat rabbits that were sold to her as mini Rex :/ poor kids were so sad,I gave them one of the dwarf mutts I rescued a couple months ago, they were very happy to be able to take their new pet home. My coturnix have finally started laying :celebrate spent the weekend rearranging birds and breeding pens, and had to sell some groups. Some how word got out that I'll take unwanted farm animals. :idunno I don't how or who told, but some one knows I can't so No to animals in need. Thankfully as quick as I take them in, I'm finding homes for them. Hope you all had a good day.

NH- so sorry you lost the chicks :hugs

does any one here breed showgirls? or any suggestions for some funny, weird looking birds to my flock, mainly because the neighbor kids I watch found pictures of show girls, and NN easter eggers. and now want me to get some  I'm looking for hatchings, 12-18 eggs shipped, fairly cheap, I'm not looking for show quailty just nice birds.

Good morning everyone...a sleepless night for me, so I am beyond running on empty! Each time I thought I was going to be able to get to bed and finally get some sleep one of the kids would wake up crying because of this or that....

I hope everyone has a great day...me, I'm just looking forward to a LONG nap this morning - or whenever the girls take one (IF they take one).

I have a question about the Royal Palms.
In all my googling of turkeys I came across a couple posts on here where people said royal palms were the best turkeys for egg laying, do you think that's true? The hatcheries have them listed as poor, and I didn't know if that was poor compared to something like a chicken or poor compared to other turkeys.
I think they are REALLY pretty!!!! I love black and white birds.
Also, how noisy are the female turkeys? I know the males are the ones that gobble all day, but I don't think I've ever been around a female.
Thanks!!!

Duchbunny, their laying season here has been a bit shorter than the Bourbon Reds, but during their season they've been pretty consistent. The female call is no where near as loud as a to gobble. Have you tried Googling the sound?
