Meg did I miss a post? What happened to Levi?

RF, sorry if I didn't say here. I forget where I've mentioned things! He had surgery yesterday. A prophylactic gastropexy, which attaches his stomach to the abdominal wall to prevent a gastric torsion, which is a leading cause of death in Great Danes. I got offered the surgery for free, because a dog was needed for a demo by a board certified surgeon doing demos for local vets.

Good morning everyone!! I hope you all survived the storms here...I think I may be the cause of the storms. I planted some tomato slips a few days back and ever since then, it has rained EVERY day!!

Nothing like killing my tomatoes!! I guess I was NOT meant to have tomatoes for salsa and tomato sauce/paste this year!! <sigh>
Had a good check up at the doctors (well...aside from losing weight again...oops!?!?!?). I am measuring at 41 weeks, so they are not concerned about the weight loss (4 lbs in 2 weeks...WHY can't I do that when I am NOT pregnant?? LOL). Next week is a "mandatory" check, so we'll see what's going on. I'm hoping to NOT be online this weekend but in the hospital or at home recovering!!

Except something tells me my impatience is going to be "rewarded" with a very LATE baby!! LOL
Kept the chickens and ducks locked up yesterday (especially since we were gone most of the day) but I plan to let them out today while we're outside...watching/playing. DH is going to install some red light predator security thingies...not sure how that will help during the day, but we'll see. We're also going to post a few owl statutes on the run/coop area as we were told that will help with SOME arial predators. We have a call into a guy about fencing and we're waiting to hear back from him. DH decided that since the fence will extend into the woods, we will be cutting down a FEW trees (leaving the bigger ones for shade, just removing branches below 12 feet) so that it's more open...plus it will give us some good firewood for this winter (IF we have a winter...LOL). That will come AFTER he builds a playset for the girls.
Hollow - I hope Levi is doing well and recovering nicely for you!! He's a beautiful dog (even if I am SCARED of dogs and not a fan of them...you know because they scare me. LOL)...I can appreciate beauty!

I'm jealous that you get a day with Beth though!!

I think we need to have a party at the Meadows...just so I have an excuse to have company and bake (maybe even show off a baby)...and convince Beth to bring her duck egg finders!! LOL

Yeah, I saw more torsion surgery than I care to remember from back when I was a tech. I had already been considering this surgery when Doc called me and offered it. Hmmmm.....free major surgery (usually runs $400-$800) by a board-certified surgeon who is demonstrating for a room full of other vets, and the surgery can prevent him dying a horrible death. I'd be a fool to turn that down. I can be foolish, but not about stuff like that!

I'll be picking him up this afternoon. I have a giant crate in my dining room for him.

relocate well away from folks then culling would be

I didn't take it personally.

We're good. I would rather relocate or let them stay around and kill mice... we have had snakes around for years and I actually get a kick out of seeing them. I just wanted to make sure that I did the right thing for next time. I have a friend who is a few miles away that found one in a nest box the same day, it had also eaten a 5 week old. Neither of us had any idea they could eat chicks that big!

night time water rescue
went out to close up the coop and do a head count.
heard peeping from under the coop
found my silkie hen with 2 chicks under the coop
and another stuck in the fence.
Got the stuck chick loose and handed him/her off to be dried.
Got mama silkie back in the coop
and had to lay in the mud to force the chicks out from under the coop
they were in an inch of water and it was still raining.
Everyone is safe and back in the coop where it is dry and warm under mom.

I am glad that everyone is doing ok!

Good morning!!!

As of this morning I have 12 Lavender Orpingtons!!!!!
3 more have external pips and a 4th is rocking.
2 I had to pull out for blood rings at day 10.
I purchased 12+ hatching eggs on ebay, the seller sent me 18, and it looks like 16 are going to hatch!!!

I also had some blue/black/splash marans in there that didn't look like the best eggs when I received them so I really didn't think any would hatch. At candling they didn't even look like anything, but the shell was dark so left them in there just in case. I only had 5, but 3 have pips.

Now fingers crossed the kid coming to feed my cat, bunnies & guinea pigs can keep them alive for the 2 weeks I'm gone!

Oh, I am so jealous! I would love to have some Lavender Orpingtons. They are SO pretty!!

Good morning everyone!

I don't post much on here, but I usually don't have much going on. I just usually enjoy reading all the posts and taking in all the information. I have learned so much from everyone the few months I have been on here. Keep all the great information coming.

On another note, my baby chicks are doing good. They are almost 3 weeks. I plan on building a A-Frame tractor to put them outside when they are ready. How long should I wait to put them in with my flock that are all 27 weeks? Also, I'm still waiting on my six hens to start laying!

I just feel like it's taking too long.
