all off on time and being so tired from being up waiting
for a work crew that got delayed and delayed and delayed

The bottom doesn't appear any different on either foot, no black spot, nothing.

Sounds like a sprain. Feel up the foot/leg for any hotspots. That is just in case of infections. I doubt you will find anything. Keep roosters off her and try to make sure she is not jumping down off a roost in the mornings. Other then that it should start to get better in a few days.

Matt
Apparently one of ours had the same thing happen to her, a sprain. Leg injuries do seem to take a long time to heal. Our girl was inside for a few months, getting pampered the whole time. She didn't move from her nest. She is outside full time now and no more limping, Finally!

Did a bunch of catching up reading this morning! I've been at home in bed due to an impacted wisdom tooth with my whole right side face swollen ridiculously big. Going for surgery today! little man is getting big

I think he was laughing at my chipmunk face!
And we found these next to my garden

Luke - cute baby and bunnies! Sorry about your tooth - hope you are better soon!

DB - It is awesome you are driving the tractor! Ye-ha!

RF - Oh my, the fish aren't going to know where home is!

Everyone else, I hope you are all staying dry, it is another rainy day!

I lost another baby chick to a snake! This one was a week old. I think I have figured out what might be happening. We have some low lying areas not far from us, the rain has made them swampy/ponds which has driven the snakes up to the drier areas. They see our place and think it is a buffet! I am trying to figure out ways to snake proof the coops without running them off because I do like the mouse crowd control. I think that until the swampy/pond areas dry up, we are going to have a higher than normal population....

On a happier note, does anyone in the Sanford/Fayetteville even Southern Pines or Cary areas buy bulk pine shavings or know of a good deal on bagged shavings? I can use several bags in a week and wourl rather not spend $5 a bag if I don't have to. I don't have a huge place to store shavings so a big dump truck load is not possible, but I can manage a regular truck (pick-up) and don't mind picking them up. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Sorry about your chick.................
for snake control since sulfur and wet ground isn't going to work......
another method is to get some of the plastic netting with small holes
and light lines..........put thin stakes into the ground around the coop and
put the netting over the stakes........kinda skewered through the netting
so it is in a loose accordion style weave. The snakes trying to slither
through will get caught up in it and then you can capture and relocate
to a more compatible area. The netting needs to be loose so they get
snared in it but you need to remove them soon after snaring so they survive.
I agree that all the wet areas and water are driving lots of critters to the dry
of coops and barns and houses..........just part of country life
