Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

Stayed up waaaayy too late last night. I'll be paying for that today.

Hubby managed to mow everything except the front chicken pasture yesterday. That needs a bit more drying out before it can get cut. Ok, a lot more drying out. There's a pond on part of it.

Hope you have a dry, sunny day!

NewHomesteader2010 if ya don't mind me askin how far are ya from mr manning a store in middlesex? We have been looking homes for sell in middlesex but most are in Johnston county. But they are all about 5 to 10 minutes from here. Found a nice one on selma rd but we need more land for all these animals we have.

I wish I could tell you, but honestly, I have NO idea where that store is. LOL We are a good 15-20 minutes away (haha...in Johnston County instead of Nash) from the actual town of Middlesex (closer to Selma/Smithfield/NC 42). There are a few houses for sale around here, but to be honest, we couldn't find one with decent land AND a home without breaking the budget. We settled for a middle of the road place with the future option to expand (due to really nice neighbors...they just need more coaxing to let us buy the land they're NOT using...LOL). I'm ashamed to say we've lived here for going on 3 years now, and aside from knowing how to get to a few places...we don't know our area (or any area for that matter) very well. I JUST learned how to get to Wilson and we won't talk about my attempt to "find" Atlantic Beach when my family was visiting...

I'll keep my eyes open as I am out and about for anything that might work and let you know if I see anything!! Best of Luck!! Welcome to BYC again!!

Welcome to all the other new folks too!!

No baby...wet marsh-like ground...my lone WHITE chicken (Maran) is now a sorry yellow brown color...and I don't even want to think about how much fun it is NOT going to be to get her cleaned up. I'm just waiting for a dry day (preferably one post-partumn...then again maybe running around trying to catch a chicken would be a good inducement?!?) LOL Harvested some corn last night - our FIRST corn crop EVER!! Super excited about that, even if we pulled a few ears a little TOO early (it was hard to see in the dark...LOL). That will teach us to do some midnight gardening! LOL.

Have a great day everyone!!

Newhomesteader2010 I may have passed ya yesterday them! :) we take 39 all the way to 301 to go to the flea market n Smithfield. I love going out there! They usually have chickens but I didn't see any yesterday. :( everyone's coop is probably still to messy to get in there to bring them or if the chickens are like mine they are muddy from splashing around in the mud. I do believe my chickens are like kids in the they intentionally kick mud on each other me and DH.
I am hoping any praying it dries out some more today causes back yard really needs mowing but we tried to mow yesterday evening but got stuck. Ugh! And I bought the chickens from a sweet lady in louisburg. I don't remember exactly where cause DH picked them up one night as a surprise. And a surprise it was. We started off with 30 from her and half the poor rascals passed away within 2 weeks. :( but in total we have 27 from various places. Several different breeds. A buff orp a black orp 8EEs 4 barred rocks 3 more I m unsure of and 2 white rocks and 3 cornish rocks an OEGH a really large rooster we found in the woods a silkie a "sizzle" and a small bantam something or other. i would love to get more but DH says no and he wants to sell some of our cornish rocks. :( I don't want them to be somebody's supper. :( I don't think I could handle living with that cause I have raised all of them since they were tiny little things. :(

Good morning everyone!!!

Elizabeth - I got 2 RIR and 4 Buff Orpfs from Hollow. As I have repertey said, they are AWESOME! Maybe the healthiest I have ever bought!!!! Beautiful, calm, not flighty. LOVE them.

RF I think I would have yelped too if I ran into a turtle in the muddy water. Gals you are working on draining the lake.

CSB - hoping for a reprieve from the rain here too!!! We need to dry out. The yard really needs to be cut.

DTS - I am not sure what the rules are for selling eggs - or if there are regulations for small sellers. I sell to friends and haven't registered or done anything with the state... Not sure if that is the right thing but it is what I am doing.

If I wrong - someone please say something so I/ we will know :)

Yeah, the lake is almost knee deep in that spot. But hoping for a few days without rain to help out with it
