He won't eat. I've tried plain yogurt. I've even tried the strawberry organic yogurt. :( he just looks at it then walks away. It is very depressing to watch an animal suffer like this. I know he has got to be dehydrated. I've tried feeding with dropper but he spits it out. Poor baby.

I am going to kill my good for nothing aunt!!! She lives with us, which was suppose to end over a year ago, while she got her diabetes in check. Well she doesn't see the need to watch her diet at all, doesn't respect anything of ours because she doesn't "own" it even though she lives there, and doesn't like listening to anything we have to say. Yesterday we actually picked up two little pullets, one Splash Orp and One Dark Brahma, and my Aunt was still at home. On our way back home, we got a a call from her and she was demanding where we were. We asked her why and she said because she "lost control" of our little dachshund and he got out and that he was currently at the moment killing our hens. What really ticks me off is that while she was on the phone with us the dog was attacking the birds! She wasn't even trying to help them out! She just stood there say

"Oh I'm sorry but one of your chickens is dead, oh wait now there's two, and the thirds out in the woods somewhere. I'm sorry it's completely not my fault, he got away from me."

The dog is at the most twenty pounds and if she did what we asked her to then he couldn't have gotten pass her. What really ticks me off is when we asked her why she wasn't doing anything she said, "Well because I had to get my shoes on!" Yeah her feet are most definitely more important than two of our pets lives!!! She always complains that we don't think enough of her dog because it isn't "our beloved pet." Well she just killed two of mine and didn't think twice about it! When we got home with the new pullets she didn't even have the consideration to come out and talk to us, but rather just sat in her room.

Now we only have a ten week old Splash Orp and Dark Brahma (12 weeks) from Wildsriver. The splash is so sweet and nice!!! They both love blueberries and love their little "baby run". Our rooster is so traumatized that he won't even crow now

and our four little Cuckoo Maran chicks are only three days old.

We are getting some 4 month Jersey Giants next week and a few RIRs and BOs from Hollow. We are trying to get some more laying hens that lay large brown eggs, because we have some people that are expecting eggs soon and our pullets are way too young to lay and our rooster is well... a rooster...

Anyone have some large brown egg laying birds that they are willing to sell (that are already or are suppose to start real soon) so we can start to rebuild our flock with some layers?

Thanks

Gonna miss these guys!

I had a friend that had a really sick chick, she dunked it's head in just slightly watered down apple cider vinegar till it would drink. Hope maybe that it helps!

If they need a home let me know. I might be able to take them.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!! I am so so sorry!! This just broke my heart! I'm so mad with your aunt right now....Don't know where she would go but she and her dog would have to go! LOL I know its not that easy but........you've gone above and beyond what you were expected to do especially if their is other family members who can take their turn.

Oh and this incident broke the camels back and we will have to get rid of my little four year old dachsund mix. He is an amazing dog, sweet as can be, and so nice, but since he has killed a kitten, a rabbit, and our hens we can't keep him with more chickens and livestock on the way.

Now I have to find a new home for this little fuzzy face

Hate that but it sounds like he has gotten that taste for the kill. He would do well in a family without other pets.

That's so sad. That always breaks my heart to have to rid of an animal. :( why don't u see I u have any family that wants him first. That way you can still enjoy his company when u visit? I have a friend who has an old miniature Doberman that snaps at their kid cause he's an old fart so they are trying to find a gown for him as well :( but we so what we must for our lives ones.

Yeah she was only suppose to be with us for two months, but after that she just walked up to us and announced that she had to stay for another few months. We said that was okay, because she had to get her diabetes in check, but since then we have realized that she doesn't give a rats backside about her diabetes. She says that she can 'treat' her (what she calls) sugar diabetes with medicine and that she thinks she can eat whatever she wants. Then a few weeks ago she just announced to my mother that she will be having to stay until next August; of 2014... We are using this incident to give her a good reason to leave!

Thank you so much for saying that. My aunt has a knack of driving anyone insane even if she hasn't met them.

Sorry for the sob story, just this ruined my happy day of getting new chickens and I've already ranted to every person offline about it, so I thought I would share with my chicken friends!

Well glad I was here to listen! I really can't stand it when people disrespect others like that. We had to go to ohio for a few days back in may and my DH friend stayed here at the time and didnt once let my dogs outside to even pee! So we came back and there was pee and crap all over the floor and their bed. Needless to say he left about a week later. I'm sorry it has ruined your day. :( I have a sick bantam I've been trying to care for and I'm at a loss of what to do. So I understand your frustrations. If u read back at my posts you will understand about the bantams. That goes back to the disrespect to property thing. But I have to get over it now. But just read back and you will TOTALLY get why I feel what ur going through.

hate to say but willing to bet it's the dachsund side and he will
always have that prey-chase instinct and it is strong in the
dachsunds..........they were bred to hunt small game and rodents.
I have a good friends who has had them for many years and
all of hers through the years have been like this one......chase and kill.
Hers were great at digging too so kennels without cement floors were
no help in controlling their hunting drive. Good luck in getting a new home
.....who could refuse that cute face
