Finally got to cut the last of my yard/ pond area the other day. As I did I stepped on something hard so I looked down and seen a mud turtle. I picked him up so I could mow right there and not hurt him and than put him back. Next time I just wont cut the grass where a mud turtle is, HE BIT ME!!!!! Granted he didn't break skin, and I have had chickens do worse, but it still hurt. I think I was more surprised than anything. I still cut the grass there and put him back (once I got him off of my hand that is)

Good morning everyone!
Just put some lavender americaunas and olive eggers in the incubator

Now the waiting begins!

I hope everyone has a great day. I am SO excited it is Friday, I have so much I need to do this weekend!
Anyone doing a second/Fall garden?
I have a ton of seeds being delivered today.
My last garden was taken over by these weird looking light gray bugs. I have no idea what they are but there were hundreds. I'll have to take a pic so someone can help me figure out what I'm working with and how I can get rid of them!

Sitting by my ladies ..early layers so I'm trying to figure who's doing thelaying. Know the RIRs have begun however I knew either my wyndotte or my Brahma was contributing. This am 2 of them were having fit over the same box!the Brahma had it first but the RIR wanted it back! Both ended up in it! I went around to peek in from the access door. Neither one was moved...then all of a sudden mama Brahma let an egg go right in front of me""! Never had seen that first hand! I took it so their fussing wouldn't hurt it but now Ms.Frack is staying right there taking her own sweet time. I really has been an exciting morning for me...LOLOL Now for some serious house work...YUK!

I havent actually witnessed an egg being laid yet. Got two more yesterday, one brown one green! All of the previous eggs have been green/olive colored. But, the brown egg was in the coop floor, in the litter. I have a fake egg (cat toy) in one of the nest boxes, how do i convince the other girls to lay up there?

Well, I waited long enough to see Ms Frack come out of the box.....got an egg from her! Hubby gets off early today so we may have egg sandwiches for our lunch....LOL. Everyday now is a waiting game to see what treasures my girls give me...got to love it. Called my hubby to let him know my exciting news...about seeing an egg laid right in front of me. He just laughs and reminds me it doesn't take much to keep me happy...actually, he said I was a low maintainence wife.......LOLOL He is not into the chicken thing but I'm going to win him over. Just wait till Sept when I have to go to OKLAhoma for a week and he gets to take care of the girls.... He will come around

Good morning everybody. Hubby gets paid today. Decided not to make a rent payment this week and instead get some supplies to make that coop with. Or at least that's the game plan. :) well see how that plays out. Got a really busy busy busy day tomorrow. Yard sale move furniture out. Paint and repair small things to get ready for the move. :-( I sure will miss this place. This was our first home together. 2 years July 31. And we r moving out the same day. It will be okay. Right guys? I haven't gotten any more eggs from the girls. I have even checked under bushes and around all DH crap in the yard but...no eggs. Anywho have a great day!

Yesterday was the interview with the television station. It went pretty well. The camera guy got some great footage of the chooks. He especially liked when I called them for their mealworm treats and they all came running from every corner and crevice of the yard and pastures. I guess the interview was more about having backyard chickens than caring for them. Like, why I got into it, if it was a lot of work, etc, etc. He said they would put a link to our website in the story in case anyone had questions I could answer. We did talk about the Backyard Chickens List here and gave them a good plug as a great resource for chicken owners! I think it will air next Thursday on the 10pm news. I will probably forget to watch it but he said there would be a link for it on their website after it airs. I sent them both away with a fresh dozen of eggs :)

The camera guy really liked the horses too and wanted to go see them. They happily obliged and Mystic was very interested in his camera & tripod and followed him everywhere for scratches. I guess she didn't realize that she was NOT in the chicken story!

We've had 8 more guinea keets hatch since Wednesday. They weren't really due til Saturday but they have hatched early before. We have no clue how old the eggs were when we found the nest. I candled them at 5 days and threw out the bad ones but who knows what we will get. I released 21 last week and they are doing great and starting to explore more now.

Congrats on the new baby!! Glad everyone is well and home.
Congrats on the eggs to those who are now getting them!! Nothing like collecting your eggs each day and counting them :)

This is Butterbean. At first I thought Butterbean was a girl but now I'm not so sure. I am very unsure of her breed. She or he was supposed to have been an EE but...her feet and legs are white and no fuzz around her face. I really really want to keep Butterbean. We bonded the day we brought her home. She is almost 7 months now and I ha

Sbrookes where are you moving to??

DST looks good. Are you gonna have tops on the nest boxes and a top on the outside pen? Wasn't sure if you left these off so we could see or not

Thanks. I wasn't planning on putting a top on the outside pen. Well I guess I could if we made it tall enough for us to walk in there. With the nesting boxes I wasn't sure whether or not I should... Do you think I should? We are getting some Jersey Giants so I didn't want to make them too small so they would be cramped...
