I figured out what wrong with my baby! But I ain't figure out how this happened. She has a puncture like wound on her left side that is hidden by her wing! At first I thought it was bloody poop cause I thought she had coccidiosis and I went to wash it off with a baby wipe and lo and behold a puncture wound. She's still eating and drinking just fine but she's not flying as well and her wing is drooping on that side. Her wing is not broken though. I am giving duramycin to her to prevent infection in the wound do y'all have any other advice?

I have read from other seasoned chicken keepers that nu-stock ointment is a miracle worker. I haven't tried it nor do I know where to get it! lol. I had a bird get caught under some fencing and rip the skin and feathers off her wing. used blue kote spray from tsc and bag balm and she healed up great. You would never know now that she had been injured.

sbrooks hope you little one gets better.

In the last four days I have lost two hens. One because she jumped out of pen and was free ranging and "something" got her. The second was lost when our lab got off the tie out while they were out free ranging in early evening and got one of my buff's. I was more upset about the buff because I felt like I let her down.... I did not protect her. Now I am assuming the first chicken got taken off by the lab as well.

Getting a new tie out today and hopefully we will lose no more chickens.
I have two roosters but they were no help to the buff. they ran in the opposite direction when I heard the chase start. Might be getting rid of those as well.

Have a great non-drama day!

Most roosters do not protect the flock by attacking the predator. Most sound the alarm while running for cover. The few that take on the predator only do it once because they are killed by that first predator.

Good luck with your lab (hope that's your predator and not something else)

Are you wanting pure ameraucanas or easter eggers? They are two different type of birds. Ameraucanas are showable, come in certain colors, and lay only blue eggs, ee's come in any shape/ color and lay blue or green eggs, olive eggers lay olive eggs. Hope this helps. And there are people here with these birds.

I never told u all about my big RIR rooster. Lol I just have to. A few weeks ago all the chickens ran to the coop in the middle of the day very unusual and then mr big man started shrieking and crowing and took off like a bay out of you know where! There was a stray cat in the yard and my rooster went ninja on him!!! Started stomping him and pecking him and jumping and kicking him. It was the darnest thing. The cat was fine I assume cause once he got the chance he high tailed it out of there n hasn't been back since! Lol. It wasn't funny but I thought it was cute how he protected the flock. I was horrified for that cat. Anyway hope u all have a good day. Last cup of coffee before loading up again. Almost done! Thank God!!!

ha thank you for the Tuesday morning laugh!!!! and thats what I thought but everyone I know has either Hybrids or rhode Island reds or they have them but they just aren't fertile.
Chickens Are Addicting!!!!
