Sbrooks: I'm so sorry sbrooks! Its hard losing an animal and beloved pet!
Anyway, we just figured out that one of our little Cuckoo Maran chicks is a rooster and my mom doesn't want to keep our current rooster. He has finally grown out of his aggression to people, but he is stressing our hens out too. It seems like he is being really aggressive towards our RIRs more than anyone else. It seems to be affecting our income of eggs though.
We were getting about six eggs a day from eight hens until we put the rooster in there. Now we are averaging at the most three a day. We just can't keep him, because he is really stressing out the girls and we have people expecting eggs....
So if anyone wants a Cuckoo Maran rooster you are most welcome to take him. We are actually about to put some new bantam chicks out in our "baby run" tomorrow (they are coming from some friends), and since we are we need to move our little fourteen week old Dark Brahma and twelve week old Splash Orp from the "baby run" and move them to the roosters old pen (the pen our Cuckoo Marans were all in before they died). He was in with the new girls but we've now separated him from them.
We don't want any money for him; Just a good home with lots of hens he stays calm toward people. I mean he is a gorgeous rooster, but we are going to try to raise our little Cuckoo Maran Roo chick into a nice little flock guardian. We didn't have our other one from the time he hatched to now, so I think thats why he's not completely comfortable and nice. We handle our pullets and chicks so much I don't think we give them a choice not to be friendly
