Dutch use a warm damp wash cloth to gently wipe off the dried blood from the eyes, you might have to do this for a few days. Generally when the chicks peck each other like this, it's because they are cramped and don't have enough space.

So are you saying it could be like a recessive gene that was passed from one of the parents? Would this be true for all of like lets say the roos offspring or just a specific rooster and hens genes mix?
It could be just one bird carrying it, it could be that both parents carry it and this one just got the lucky combo to have some feathers on the legs that might go away as it grows up.

Hi my name is Cindy. I live in Duplin County. Just got into chickens because of a school project my son started. We have a modern game roo and his hen. Also have a partridge colored roo. He's been by himself a while as his hen died. Haven't figured out why. Just found 2 girlfriends for him yesterday. A splash and a buff. Seems nobody near us except this one lady I happened across breeds silkies.

Okay, thanks

There's 10 day-old chicks in a full size bathtub, which is bigger than most brooders I've seen people use so I'm surprised they'd be cramped. This is what I always use the first week or so and I've never had this problem before. When you go in TSC they have like 50 or more in one tub.

I do fermented feed and there are some great threads on it. I ferment grower feed in water and the chickens love it and they are shiner and poop less and less smelly. Really easy to do. If you have more questions feel free to message me or ask any questions.

Ditto! I also keep dry feed out for my older hens who were not started on fermented feed (FF). Funny thing is, I have seen them ALL eating the FF. I also ferment scratch grains for them and give it to them every afternoon. They really look forward to it and let me know if I'm late in getting it out to them! (I feed a 21% layer so that I can afford to do a bit of the fermented grains every day.)

Speaking of silkies, anyone near Fayetteville have any to sell/swap? Might get them for brooders..
60 eggs in'bators..most silver penciled bantam cochins, spitzhauben, and blavk rose comb bantams

Ppssible swap?
If your looking for brooders, the cochins should do very well at it from what I have heard from other people who have these and seen from my one frizzled cochin bantam hen.
