All About..... I am wondering, can you cover the incubator with a blanket or towel. Just leave the vent hole open. HT...what do you think about that, would that help?

My hatcher is a homemade fishtank bator. The temps fluctuate with the room temp. If it is real cold out I can put a towel on top and it stablizes. Just a thought.....

I should "knock on wood" my homemades have been real good to me. I bought the Brinsea with turner to incubate and just hatch in the ft bators, for staggerd hatches and a much better view. It's hard to cram 5 heads into the Brinsea.

p.s. got 1 one out last night.... sucessful hatch 12/14.

I am sorry to say that these eggs will not be viable if the temp does not stay at 99.5-100.00 degrees.

If you can get it to even a bit over 100 and then take a vent cap off, turn the cap upside down and slightly cover the vent hole it may help bring the temp down just a tad and settle where you need it to?? In the 97 degree range it is just torturing the eggs and they try to develop. Some people have great luck with LG's and others don't. I only used it for two hatches and moved on to a Brinsea Octa 20 which I used all this last year and loved it! But DH bought me a cabinet bator then we were lucky to find a cabinet hatcher on CL for a great price. All I can say is once you go cabinet you never go back!

Please give an update this morning.... have you been able to get that temp up??

Thats what I was worried about. This thing is still every where. How did you do it

I turned the eggs today the temp right now is at 100.4 But it will not stay at that temp. What am I doing wrong?

The temp is down to 98.4

Honestly it may not be you, it may be the bator, it could be faulty??? it also doesn't help that it's styro and two pieces so you look allot of heat and humidity where the two pieces come together. It also has to be placed in a area of your house that has absolutely NO temp change some air vents, doors or drafts because that will make it go up and down too. Just some thoughts...

Also going in and out of it all the time to turn really does not help keep it stable either, I highly recommend the auto turner in the LG. When I did use LG's I also had two of those, one with the turner and a fan for circulated air, then on day 18 I would out them in the other just flat on their side and it was a still air for hatching out.

You are just going to have to find your nitch with this thing.

Good Morning Neighbors

Woke up to no internet access, and being computer illiterate, it took me forever to make things work again. Where did Spring go???? frozen outside waterers this AM

Allabout~~I had 3 LG's with fans & turners.....never had a decent hatch out of any of them...ended up giving them away to 4H kids. Very few people are ever able to get those LG's to function properly~~sorry.

I hatch the way HT does.....incubate in one, hatch in the other....only way I can get chicks out of my little flock because I don't want the collected eggs to sit around for 3 weeks. I don't lay them on their side to hatch though.....they go in cut-out egg cartons, then in the hatching baskets.

Lot of running around to do today, so I'll see you'll tonight~~have a good one!!

Hey did anyone get the spring issue of Out Here from TRS it has a nice article about S and S Poultry[sandspoultry.com] some good recipes too. yum
