Ok so here's a pic of an egg I just found hidden in the coop. It has some reddish specks inside when I candle it and it's not round like a yolk would be but more of an oblong ish line. :/ idk. It was in the mud in one of the boxes FYI I have no ide how they get mud in the box. I wipes it off real good with a paper yowl but seeing as how it has rained on it I'm not real sure what to do here

One of my hens was laying her eggs in a wood pile. and when i found the eggs they were rain soaked, so i took them inside made scrambled eggs and fed them to the hens. I believe that if an egg gets wet it's vulnerable to bacteria so i avoid eating those plus i don't know how long they had been out there.

These came out of a woodpile. Cracked a few open and the shells were moldy on the inside.......

He, everyone! I'm from NE Tennessee, but I wanted to pop into the NC thread and say that NC has a terrific coop designer and builder in Matt Curtiss (Curtiss Coops and Yard Barns). Matt built a coop for us and drove to our place in Greene County, TN, yesterday to set it up. It's so solidly built I'm pretty sure it will last longer than we do! Here's a pic of Matt putting it together:

I can't say enough good things about Matt's work. We absolutely love the coop! The plan now is to paint it and attach an 8-foot run to one side.

Good morning folks

How did it happen?

If the pen is small enough....not necessarily a small pen.....and the hawk
can scare the birds into jumping up 2x4 is more than big enough for it
to reach through and grab the bird.......so sorry you lost one.

FVRM-I scared the hawk off abt 30min b4-left the lot for abt 10 min old folks can't find anything u no.When I came back outside it had the bird.

Coop- This trio was in one of my larger pens-This time around the pens are abt 8 yrs old- All but one is covered with 2X4 wire.Hawks like too sit
around and look the place over never thought this would happen-Never too old too learn I guess.
