I regularly check for bugs as it seems they blow in on the wind. My polish and silkies seem to get them first. If I even think one bird has a bug, everything gets done. I worm with Valbazen twice a year, once in fall and once in the spring whether or not I see anything (which I never have). I figure it's better safe then sorry and as Coopscoop said, you don't tend to see the worms till there's an overload of them in the bird or if you have fecal tests done.Mine are now 5-6 months are they ready to b wormed u think .. I see no signs of worms or mites or lice do u worm them for prevention or good measure or only if there's a problem...what do u use.. if I need to do it I want to get it on out the way.
I'm only a few days ahead of you then! Good luck![]()
Edit:
My husband will be in charge of the lockdown, my son & I have to travel out of town that day for his MRI. I was thinking to make a special account just for him in case he needs support while they hatch lol! I'm gonna miss out on the most exciting part
If he needs anything have him give me a call or pm. I will be around.

Hey everyone! Welcome to the newbies.
Cedar Creek flock swap is only the first Saturday of the month? I've got to downsize on all the ducks, not keeping as many as we planned-- White Pekins, Runners, & Swedish-- they're huge and are eating twice a day. We're leaving for Florida the end of the month and the person I hire to care for my animals while I'm gone can only come in the morning, so I need less to spread the feed longer.
This weather is really putting a damper on my plans to finish up outdoors. In the 5 years we've been down here I've never had to wait this long to garden! We're going to Hope Mills to pick up truck loads of year old composted manure, but the wet weather keeps pushing it back
I've been busy though-- Tilled & fenced a 600sq ft mini corn field, built two 300 sq ft raised veggied beds, and working on some raised flower beds for the front yard. Not much compared to ya'll with farms, but I'm hoping to get quite a bit of food grown for our little family. Working on an enclosure for some rabbits now too, my husband's next venture in home raised food, we will see!
Hope everyone's doing well. I'm like 150 posts behind so I have to go back and read. I hear they're calling for SNOW again Tuesday, keep warm!!!
I have had broody silkies steal eggs up under their beak and take them to their nest.I found the funniest thing in the run this morning! I have an open coop....one side open. That's where the roost i located and the nesting boxes are tucked in the back where its darker and as warm as possible...I have a board across the boxes to keep the material in the boxes. I keep one fake egg up there...i ruffle up the materials each day and change the location of the egg..first box one day...etc. The hens kind of follow that egg...wherever it it,,,,they lay. However, they must have gotten tire of seeing it and figured it out.. There in the run was my fake egg!!!!!! Now how did they get it over the board on the box and then get it rolled out of the coop area,,,,then halfway across the run!! I have found an egg laid in the run before......................now I'm wondering if it was handled the same way! Except I would have thought it would have broken on the fall into the run...................HOW DID THEY DO THIS?![]()

Yeah, a chicken can do it, but it's also possible a squirrel stole it, then realized it was fake and dropped it. The squirrels are starting to become a problem for me with their egg stealing. I think we're going to have to start removing some of them.I found the funniest thing in the run this morning! I have an open coop....one side open.
