guys i need someone to stop me i have 2 EE 1maran 1 SLW and i want more UGH WHAT IS A GIRL TO DO :barnie

Obviously, you need more. One of my cuckoo marans has been broody for a few days, so I figure why not. Anything that hatches can join the other 14 chicks (3 ssh/bcb mix; 5 barnyard mixes, and 6 light brahmas....)

I gave her 5 eggs. Will see if I can get another few cuckoo maran eggs tomorrow and get them under her.

Tractor Supply still has chicks. :D

This has been an awful week. I've lost 2 hens and 2 guineas. We've had occasional losses before, but never this many and in such a short period of time. I'm heartbroken and feeling completely defeated. We have been using our barn as a coop and in spite of all my efforts and lots and lots of hardware cloth, something keeps getting in. I guess it's time to just give up and get a real chicken coop. My husband is busy and doesn't have time to help me build one. My birthday is in 2 weeks and I've been told that I can have a chicken coop for my birthday (Yay!). So my question is, does anyone know a good builder of quality predator proof coops in NC? We live in Moore county. Thanks!

Think about a pre-fabbed shed with windows. You can customize it once you get it, and I will be a whole lot faster; maybe even cheaper.

i can't do any more i only have a 4ft by 4ft coop and my rum is like 10ft by 12ft at the highest i have to move my roost just to fit these chicks in

More then likely per fabbed from Lowe's or the sort will be cheaper, but not better. My DH runs a framing company and can build a shed that will last forever, but just the cost of GOOD materials is more then what the cheap sheds at Lowe's cost. Then you still have to add in labor to build it.

Mine is standard construction and delivered in one piece. It likely will last forever -barring tornado or hurricane damage, etc. Definitely look around and compare materials and costs.

I built my own in 2 days while DH was away with about $350 of materials from Lowe's.
It's holding up great-- 6x6x6, cedar planked walls, framed out really well with treated 2x4's, and a corrugated roof over the treated plywood sheet roof. Opted to use natural floor to keep things from living under & easier to clean. Just an idea if you don't want to drop $1500 on a shed from Lowe's.

I almost failed shop class, if I can build one anyone can
