Good afternoon everyone.

What a miserable weather here.

It's been raining all day long, and I have so many outdoor projects that I was hoping to finish this weekend,

but now they have to wait. Unfortunately when the weather is like this, I actually have to do inside work.

.
I love my chickens and I love my yard. We just built this house last year and I'm still working to establish my gardens. This year I will start my vegetable garden.

Last year I worked on my flower garden and the patio. The squirrels and deer are a challenge in this neighborhood. As much as I love watching them, they ate half of my flowers last year. I planted 120 bulbs of Asian Lilies last spring, the squirrels ate the bulbs and the deer ate the few flowers that survived the squirrels and bloomed

, unfortunately they are to cute to do anything about it. I read an article saying that if you bury oyster shells with the bulb, the squirrels will not touch them. So I'm going to try that with my new Asian Lilly and Tulips bulbs this year

Another project is my “chicken salad bar” in the run. I’m going to post pictures with this as I go and let you know if it works.

This is my raise bed grass project area. The wood still needs to be cut and screw in together. I'm going to have concrete blocks instead of stepping stones, with the same height as the frame turned sideways so grass can grow inside the stone as well, but wide enough for me to step on it if I ever need to enter the raised bed. The net will cover the stones as well. I will staple the net one in. bellow the top of the frame in the inside (I think it will look better).

Half of raise bed finished...

If this project works, then I will make few more raise beds in the second part of the run, and two more in the dog area. I'm adding that part to the run, since we got her invisible fence and now she has the whole yard to run around. She will only have the covered part with the dog house. I still like for the dog to sleep next to the chickens, because she is a beagle mix, very loud, and very good in scaring any potential predators, since we have 80 acres of forest in our back yard.

WOW.... I could not get on the BYC website for about an hour. Home page said there were too many connections. I thought I might be missing out on some great contest. LOL

NH... I agree with Gavin. There are some poor quailty and or sick birds at them. The pair of cochin I got had lice /mites. I have a quarintine pen and treated them as soon as we got home. They will remain in quarintine a min. of 30 days. I go early enought to check all the sales out. I was aware of there was something, I assumed bugs or parasites, since the chickens combs were pale. Already a week later, treated for bugs, wormed & feed yummy food and treats they look 100% better. I just could not resist these two. I kept going back and back etc. then when they came up for auction my arm flew you on it own..

I am in the Fayetteville area. Wanting to know if anyone has a sliver polish roo that they want to get a new home for? Can pay or trade a under a year old silkie roo or silkie cross roo for. Or eggs lol. Don't have to be sq.

Totally agree about the auction. I had lots of fun going (and so did my son!) but knew that wouldn't be the way to go for me to start my little flock.

Arianna, love your idea and will be very excited to see if it works out! That is an awesome run! Mine is just in the clearing phase so I'm very jealous.

This weather is weird. Pouring down rain in the sunshine 5 minutes ago and now no rain but crazy thunder. I was so optimistic for progress today! Boooooo.

gavinandallison - I'll have to check out your page!

How are all the newly hatched chickies doing today???

hey everyone I didn't have BYC most of the afternoon

glad to hear it was just me I was beginning to get worried.. anyway, we had a big snow today started off with heavy rain and by the time Church let out it was snowing really hard and huge flakes.. laying on the ground but after it quit the snow disapeared. Thank goodness!

saw your pics michaelinn very pretty animals.. Em your getting runners? I am hoping to get a couple from gofaststripe when she gets hers from Holldreads sometime this spring. I was so upset about the way those chickens, ducks geese turkeys and etc. where caged yesterday, it's a shame that people would rather make a buck than take proper care of their animals.. some were so crowded in their cages they couldn't have turned around if they had wanted too..
barnie.gif
then they actually had chicks hardly feathered out right out in that cold rainy weather...

It was almost too much don't know if I can go to another one and see that.. so enjoyed seeing all the chickens inside though.
also wanted to say for those looking to find some descent prices on their lumber how about a salvage store? might help
