Holy hot weather, Batman! I can hardly breathe today.

So this is our new baby. No one wanted her because "she was born with one eye." I have her in quarantine, but I'm starting to wonder about the eye thing. I was reading last night and saw something about Marek's and one eye, so now I am freaking out. Have any of you experienced it? I'm a bit new to the chicken thing.

What do you all do with extra cockerels, grow them out and eat them?
I've got a couple Wyandottes, a Rock, and a Delaware that would be big enough size to eat, but would take them awhile...
There's a couple Leghorns that would be a waist of time, Easter Egger I don't know about.

People only want pullets (not that I blame them, I'm the same).
They're 6 weeks old I was trying to sell 10 of them for $20 but no takers

I wish you all could have been here to see the circus around my coop about an hour ago! I went out to give the chickens fresh water and noticed that my free-ranging roos needed some food. Well the food is under the edge of the shelter where the small coop is located. All of a sudden I heard a loud squawk..looked in and there was an EE with its head stuck in the small kennel panel. (remember I lost all but 1 hen an the 2 roos so I was very concerned!) So I hurried around to rescue it. It was black/white like the one in the small kennel...I was trying to figure out how the EE had gotten out but still had its head stuck! (I know...it doesn't make good sense to me now either!

) Well, it wasn't the EE in the small kennel...it was the big /W Brahma who thinks she is the "king" of the coop. She has NOT liked the intrusion of a new EE in HER coop. She was trying to reach IN and grab the new EE and got her head stuck. Anyway, got that one unstuck and decided that the new EE was just not going to fair well in the coop no matter what, so I took her out to let her free-range....then I grabbed "mamabrahma" and put her in the kennel for some time out.! THEN I heard squawking--outside....the 2 roos that have been free-ranging were trying to mount my young EE and she was screaming up a storm and running around.! LOL I didn't know which of 3 directions to go! Finally set up a small kennel under the birch tree and managed to catch the EE pullet and put her in for her own good. DANG !! Now I just about have everyone in "time out". Hadn't figured out the next step. But that EE is old enough to put a good bite on you! And I had to open her mouth before I could put her down!!! Pictures would have done this justice... especially if you could have seen me trying to crawl in and out of the 30"x30" door...but....LOL....just didn't have time to take them!

Oh no!
I lost 3 rabbits today in the heat from my doe's litter, only one buck left.
They had plenty of fresh water and were in the shade, but it got too hot!

What do you all do to help keep your animals cool when it's so hot out?

Ice bottles. Keep lots of bottles in the freezer and swap them out. They'll snuggle with them.

Thanks!
The bigger ones are all fine, they dig themselves down in the sand in the shade so I guess that helps keep them cool.
These were in the shade, but I had them in a cage since they weren't full grown.
Just loaded the freezer with water bottles!
