I don't know if chicken math applies to ducks, but....

My daughter gave me a pair of young ducks in May. The drake is very amorous, and I feel bad for the hen. So I have been shopping around trying to find him a few more playmates. I haven't been successful...The recommended ratio is 1 drake to 3 - 5 hens, so I have been looking for 3. The only ones I could find were $20 or $30...so I started looking at the hatcheries. . .And if I buy 10, they will be $100...AND I know they will be hens.

So instead of 3, I am getting 10. Makes sense, right? So, I will have a few extra Khaki Campbell hens if anyone is interested.

Lovely day out there! It's chick day! I removed quite a few from the incubator this morning. Thought I'd share. Most of the Wellies are claimed, but there should be a few left if anyone wants any. NONE of the English Orps are for sale, as I'm hopeful that Elliot got friendly with the girls before he got hawked. I think the one is black, and if so it must be Elliot's kid. Fletcher is splash, so can't produce black. Cross your crossables!

Wellies!!!!!!!!!! So excited for Sunday!

What a bright moon we had last night.........it was so
bright that I was almost tempted to saddle up and go
riding but I was enjoying the hospitality of some wonderful
folks last night and that was so much better. This morning
is quite foggy so anyone traveling, please be careful.

It's a lovely day today! My niece goes home today, but my sis is going to meet me halfway, so I don't have to drive all the way to Georgia and back today! Plus, I get to visit with my sis!

Hubby and BIL return tomorrow, and BIL leaves again on Monday. Then we'll be back to what passes for normal here. While I've enjoyed the visits, they do tend to put me off my schedule. Still, got some big chores done...specifically cleaning out the feed room and scrubbing crates, feeders, waterers, buckets, etc. That was awesome!

Only thing in the incubator right now is quail eggs. I've got to start on hatching the GCMs soon, but decided to wait until the brooders are all empty so I can keep things sorted better.

Hope everyone has a good day. Do something productive and something fun. The combination makes for a satisfying day!

Hey guys. When you have a hen go broody, do you let her hatch her eggs while with the flock or in a separate area. I've always given them their own area, but I've heard some people let them hatch them while with the flock and just raise them with the flock. Won't the other chickens, especially the roosters be aggressive towards the chicks?
