The coarse ones are the ones I have too. But about half an inch from the head the tread runs out so that's where I'm running into my problem. Thinking about just leaving it that way then I can pull the chicken wire over the heads to hold and won't have to use stupid staple gun!

Yep, That's exactly where I had a problem! I ask a contractor and he explained that the threads are what pulls it down into the wood so with wood it would work that way........still didn't help me get that part down into the wood!

Would actually take a hammer to it sometimes if I got frustrated enough. Seriously, if you get a bit and predrill....it helped.

Good morning folks

Finally!!!!! the 90s are gone and we are back to some enjoyable temps
......now if only the rain would get back to a reasonable amount once
every few days instead of these gully washer downpours we have had.

The girls have slowed down on eggs and the boys are like married old
men and have no interest in a love life.

The chicken shows are about to start soon and the fairs already have.
The show in Smithfield in Dec. is a good one and I enjoy going to see
it. I'm also hoping to see a few others this year, they can be a good
place to find quality birds.

hope everyone has a good day

I have a question about poultry showes& flock swaps. Yesterday a lot of folks on here was talking to me about QT my chickens befor they live together. Some was talking about airborne particle and bugs carryind decease. What about when folks go to these shows and flock swap aren't they worried bout there birds catching something ?

Good morning all!

On the subject of screws.

I like deck screws. They seem to go in well, and I don't have to worry about them rusting. I usually get the tan ones, we try to keep 2", 2 1/2" and 3" on hand, cuz you never know when you will need to use one. They are a little more expensive, but the heads are harder to round out and we have reused them several times without issue.

Aren't they hard to get all the way in? Can't remember what I used that was a wood screw but I just didn't have the muscle to get them drilled in all the way.

Good Morning! What a drop in temps! Made me start assessing my winter plan. Put four surplus roosters in a pot yesterday. Need to get my two Gold-laced English Orpington yearlings sold. Then get the boys and girls separated for the winter. Makes my work much nicer if I can just do two or three pens instead of eight. The boys don't care in winter.

If anyone is interested in the GL Boys let me know. (You can breed them to blacks and get back to the GL coloring. That's what I was going to do. The bird in front is GL Blue and the one is back is GL Black.)

Being pretty new to all of the flock swap/shops.....I would have thought that that's where the germos would be a problem. How do you know what your chickens are exposed to.??

Hey guys. We have 2 roos that need homes, preferably where they won't be eaten. Both are free. ( I know there are lots available already)
We will be moving so I need to cut down on the boys. One is a standard SL Cochin about 1.5 years old the other is a Delaware only 3 months old. The Cochin, Jazz, has had a flock of girls all to himself separate from the other boys and is excellent at protecting his harem. The Delaware is still quite young but is starting to look handsome.
Both were sexing errors from Meyer Hatchery. Would love to be able to keep them but think the neighbors are getting squirrely with all the crowing, plus like I said we will be moving (and not a small move either).
Give me a holler if you are interested also posted on CL. Thanks guys...

I believe most shows test. Swaps do not, afaik. I don't do any shows. That is a huge concern for me. Pretty sure anything coming home from swaps should be quarantined, even if they were yours to start with.
