Who are the good local breeders in the area? I am new to nc, craven county area, and plan to start my flock in spring, but I wanted to start checking breeders so I had time to find what my family is looking for. Currently the breeds we lean towards are: orpingtons, astralorpe, plymoth, sussex, wyandotte, buckeye, and I wanted to check out naked necks.

my breeder is Roy Sumner at Sumner bird farm. all of my birds are from him, and ive had about 32 birds go through the door of my coop from him! he has a HUGE variety of breeds, and super cheap chicks and hatching eggs. he also had many breeds of ducks and 2 breeds of quail. from the birds you are looking for he has all of them! back in 2008 he finally got his showgirls.

hes NPIP approved, and has been breeding for 10+ years. Ive actuailly had some black Australorps from him and they were BEAUTIFUL

hes in Holly springs (wake county) he may be a bit away from you, but hes always here if your in the area! haha

It really comes down to what quality of birds you want. Do you want show quality, breeder quality, or just birds for eggs?

Hello ALL It been a wet year here, thought I had the mud issue under control then this last front made everything worse then ever. Guess I need to move the coop and pen, pen I can handle coop is another story might just build a new one.
Odd thing been going on last few days the girls been dropping eggs just anywhere, have dug 4 out the mud in the last 2 days. They kinda tore up my improvised layin box, went to layin in the corner of the coop now just out in the mud. Could it be there feet too wet and can't get back in the coop?
There a higher dryer area just next door, a lot I am buying, I would have to relocate everything. If I go ahead with that I guess the chickens could just free range for the day, but would this make it hard to get them in there new spot, and should I keep them penned in for a few days after that? It nice having them just right there in the back yard but I know they don't like there feet wet.
I guess it will work out somehow.

I want healthy birds for dual purpose of egg laying and companionship.

Good morning folks

DH set the live trap again since the one opossum we caught
was a small youngster. Opossums do not stay together in
groups even as youngsters but when they are first leaving
the mom they may be in the same area so just in case there
is another one we will set the trap and wait to see. The one
we did catch was a cutie. Gave it a good meal and took it
to a state park next to the base so very little hunters to worry
about. There is plenty of good habitat and a water source so
that little one should be in a good place.

Hope everyone has a good day
