Its a beautiful fall day outside! I love how I can just let the chickens and the goats out and run around. The horses are mowing the barn area for me! It's a wonderful day

@dstchickencraze How many chickens do you house in that? It looks to be about the size I am building, 8 ft x 17ft or so run, with a 8 ft wide x 4 ft long x 6 high coop...

We currently currently have 10 hens and a rooster in that coop. Theoretically it can hold up to 18-24 if you go by the 3-4 hens per nesting box rule. I thought 11 was a lot until I've actually put the hens in it. Now when they roost there is so much extra space! I could easily fit more hens in there. But we do let them out during the day, I only keep all of them in there until about 3:00. Then they are free to run around and do what chickens do

Off the top of my head I think ours is roughly 8 ft x 12 ft x 6 ft and it is working out great for us

Thanks @Coop Scoop Boogie ! How has your coop been coming along??

Good morning folks

It's going to be a busy day. We have a bit of unplanned processing to do
as we have been blessed by friends with some venison. DD#3 arrives
for a brief visit tomorrow and planning on going to the fair on Saturday.

As for hens....odd or even does not matter as long as they all have
enough room to get along together........just don't over crowd them.

hope everyone has a good day

Hey NC folk!
I have never posted here before, but I'm looking for a young bantam hen friend for my little blind bantam RIR and I was going to see what they had at the state fair but a friend mentioned that she only saw pairs of hens for sale there. Does anybody know if hens are only sold in pairs? And if so, where can I find a singleton to act as a seeing eye chicken for my special needs girl? Thanks!

I was at the fair sunday and almost got a pair of buff orpingtons. LOVE THEM! unfortunately, I want there to buy some bantams but there were none for sale. they had a chocolate banty orpington there but was sold when I came back. since sunday im sure most of the birds have already been sold and there are probably slim pickings now....there were not very many good looking ones either. a lot of the birds had puffy faces.

let me know if you are still looking for a companion. although I just sold my banty hen, I do have roosters but they may be a little rough for your girly. if your close to the holly springs area you should stop by and check out my breeder's place! he occasionally sells pullets and adult birds, but he always has 4 week old chicks in the brooders. heres his web sight ;)
