Trucks do not look right with eye lashes on.
Hahahaha!! At first I didn't know what you were talking about and thought you meant you were looking at a truck with false eyelashes on YOUR eyes lol
Then I remembered you can buy lashes for car headlights.

Good morning all. We had a dusting of snow about 4 am. I saw it on my railings. Its windy and cool here definitely. I put the windows down in the coop to give the hens a wind free area yesterday. They still have plenty of air from the back cut outs(they have wire on them)What other changes have you all made for winter? I have not put out the cookie tin antifreeze containers yet. I need to make a holder for them that can stand the outdoors with a little protection Humm.

I think I will wait till the wind dies down some. Its BRRRRRR....

Got dark early! Gotta love the time change...although I sure didn't this morning! Still, not used to it being 6:00 pm and all the outside chores are done, and so are the dinner dishes! I'll be driving to work with the sun in my eyes again, though. Ugh.

Survive Monday, everyone!

Good morning folks

I am not a big fan of this time change malarky....... seems
to me it is something created by a fickled youngster who
couldn't make up their mind. Pick one time set and leave
it alone.....sheesh. How many other countries even play
this game and think it is doing good? Okay..... Monday
morning rant over.

hope everyone has a good day

Fellow NCers, I have a question. I have a silkie that is in the beginning stages of going broody. With it getting cool now, would you allow her to TRY to hatch out a small clutch? I know silkies are notorious for being hard to break from being broody which is sort of why I got her. I wanted one hen that I could rely on to give me chicks though I thought she'd wait till it was a bit warmer to start. Anyway, your opinions and experiences with late fall broodies would be appreciated since ya'll have the same weather as I do.

Oh, I'm in Davidson County. Thanks.

I live in Randolph County. My Buff hatched two chicks on Sept.18. They are now a little over six wks. old. Mama has taught them how to roost up on the 2X4s at night, but they are still getting under her wings. It is really cute. Personally, if anyone else went broody right now I would not give her any eggs to hatch. Don't worry, your little Silkie will definitely go broody again nearer Spring. Others will most likely disagree with me, but that's just my 2 cents.

When we had let our flock of black sex-links free range some years ago,
one of the hens had hatched out a late fall clutch because we couldn't find
her nest. They did fine through the winter but personally I would not want late
chicks. If you have a good coop that is draft free you could let her try.
