I will be going to the poultry show in Smithfield and that will be the last show I attend in the USA. I am moving to the Philippines to be with my wife. Her mother just passed away and her father has had a stroke and is not doing well. So I'll take my little bit of Chicken Smarts to the Philippines with me. Will try to make arrangements with another BYC'r there to get some Austrolorp and some Buffs or Reds and start all over. My dream was to get a flock of Light Sussex, about 30. I am not giving up on the Sussex, it will just take longer than I wanted. Lot of paperwork and cost to import live ones or eggs, plus the cost of a round trip ticket to either New Zealand or Australia. But, God willing I will get them.
Maybe I'll get a few of the local chickens known as Kabir. Which in the Philippine language means "big". They are a dual purpose chicken that lays about 200 eggs per year. I will also try to do some incubating, which is not that easy there because the natural humidity is usually about 70% and above. I have an idea that I would like your opinion on. What if I build an enclosure for my incubator and put a dehumidifier with it?
I will still be lurking on BYC a little longer. And then be off the internet until I get everything set up in the Philippines (Cagayan de Oro City).
I wish everyone a great day and a happy Holiday Season.
