Good morning! Welcome to all the new folks!!
I think the weather changes have affected my flock in terms of breeding behavior. The cocks are fighting much earlier than usual, so I'm going to have to do some separating to keep them from killing each other. I also need to reduce their numbers some more. Since it's going to be a nice day and I get off work right after lunch, I'll be starting to get the empty pens ready for re-occupation. I'd like to get the Welsummers into one breeding pen, as those boys are getting the dickens beat out of them by the Marans! And I may reopen the furthest pen and move all the pullets into it, as it's not currently divided; they'll have more room. Problem would be water when it freezes, which is why I emptied that pen for the winter. Still, it's already late January, so I don't anticipate too many days where I actually have to carry water instead of just breaking ice in the morning. We shall see! This is earlier than past years, but it is what it is. Can't let the boys in the bachelor pen kill each other!
