Well...My husband has told me that the max number right now is 10 (up from 8
). I am getting a few orps from Gavin and possibly a few BR. My "dream list" would be: a gold laced English Orp...but realistically: Australorp, Buckeye (GO OSU!!), Cochin (just want to look at the prettiness), Jersey Giant, Wyandotte.
Since I am only allowed 10...the most I could get would be one of each of those and 2-4 from Gavin. We'll see. Right now...I am just excited that he finished the room in the house that he wanted to complete (now I have to paint)...so now, there is nothing standing between the coop and him!!
We even spoke about having a broody area and maybe even possible an (wait for it) INCUBATOR!! The DH is afraid we will soon go from 10-1000 if I am left "in charge"...

Naaa... I have 8 1/2 arces. I am only keeping the hens and a few roosters. They rest I will sell. I want a pretty egg basket like you. LOL
Now I need some birds that lay blue eggs...... I have EE but they haven't started laying yet. My luck they will lay brown eggs. Should be soon, they are 5 months and their faces, & combs are getting nice and red.
Well at least your on you way, an nice choices on birds too. Once you get started you'll be able to tell more about what you want to do and how far you can go. I started with 11 mama and 10chicks, now we're up to 23 chickens not too bad for going on 2 years. I could not have an incubator I would be over run with chickens I know too well. Most important thing to me is not to get over whelmed, because if you end up with too many then what do you do with them> their all special to me and I would rather have a smaller flock than worry about giving them to someone who may not take care of them the way I do. We do process our extra roos, but that was a decision we made to eat healthier and also to not have to worry about someone using them to train fighting roosters which is very popular sport around here. This is just my way of thinking. Ya'll will come up with your own plan and as time goes by will feel more comfortable with the setup you have. So just enjoy, it's so rewarding to go out to the coop and get those eggs everyday and to see your flock healthy and running towards ya for snacks, I think they actually enjoy us as much as we enjoy them.. and remember pictures, that way we can see how it's all progressing.. I fell in love with HT orpingtons at the show they are nice birds, and that Jersey Giant rooster was to die for, I love big birds with fluffy butts
