x2 Very pretty birds....

Would anyone want to start a fayetteville chicken swap/sell group with me? Fayetteville is one of the few cities that doesn't have one, there's hundreds of general NC, East coast or outer banks groups. I tried to start one but apparently facebook says I need friends

(story of my life) I don't use facebook for anything other than groups so I don't send friend requests and such. pm me if you would like to participate.

My son and I will probably be the only ones at the Smithfield show with lakenvelders unfortunately. I love the breed as does my son and we would love to talk to you about them. They are great for free range or a pen. But to be honest, some of the roosters can be man fighters, but not all of them are. The breed needs all the help it can get and my son and I would love another lakenvelder breeder/lover, but this is something that we have to deal with in some of our males. I have found that a lot of what you read from hatchery sites and the such on breeds of chickens tend to be wrong, at least a little bit. Most of the Mediterranean breeds also have aggressive males. Hope to see you at the show.

So I've looked up the Smithfield show... and I'm thinking that it's about 2 hours from my home (randleman)... i'm planning on being there! i've never been to a 'poultry only' show so i'm very much looking forward to this experience!

i am very much looking forward to meeting you and your chickens! is there anything that i should know upfront about attending a poultry show? i want to be able to get the most out of this experience, and be able to spend time learning from you too! Thank you so much for this opportunity!

Most places have them listed as a bad layer and small eggs. Mine lay great and a good sized medium to large egg. I don't make pets of my birds so they all act like I'm gonna kill them when I catch them for whatever reason.  But my son and I have shown a few lakenvelders this past fall and those lakenvelders have settled down pretty good. Even had one free range pullet make herself into a bucket baby (feed bucket). She is also the best looking pullet out of last years hatch (she was a late hatch), so my son will be showing her at the March show.

Mine lay very well; just not big eggs. I've got the 3 breeds that lay white eggs, snd out of those, my blue Andalusians lay the biggest white egg. I do love those stinkers, though, even if that's consistently the one breed that lays in unusual places.

Anyone here have any experience with Bielefelders? I'm really interested! Although right now they are a bit out of budget :-/ I'm trying to convince myself it's all hype!

Batten down the hatches tonight, my peeps! Stay safe and warm...
