my twitch is getting worse day by day before long I am not even sure I will be able to see my laptop screen

I got an EGG!!! "Summer" laid her first egg today. She is a 7 month old Welsummer. It is a very nice color covered in darker specks. The egg she hatched from came from Amy(BYC "Nadine"). Only took Summer 6 hours of nest hopping and cackling to finally lay it. I was outside working most of the day, I hate pretty days, and I kept checking nests everytime she would come out of another coop. Finally she laid in a nest in the bantam pet cochin house. I call Summer my little puppy. She follows me everywhere talking and likes to petted. If I sit down at the picnic table she will immediately jump up on the bench and start talking her head off.

The egg is a medium egg, but on the verge of being a Large. Not bad for her first egg. The 4 other Welsummer pullets are 5 months old. I guess I have a couple months of waiting.

I have had hundreds of 'first eggs' over the years, but still get excited when a friend finally grants me with a gift.

Here's the progress we've made - the future run is now all cleared of several trees, years of brush and piles of leaves and we kinda have it laid out. AND, today we were able to ROLL the big coop down into its spot using a log and 2 round posts. It actually went really smoothly, too! After the craziness of trying to get the big heavy coop moved here I was not so sure it was gonna happen, but YAY! So now we can start fixing up the coop, reroof it and partially cover the run, frame in the whole thing, etc. Woo hoo!

Tips, suggestions, advice??? Bring it on!

Good morning all, up with the Chickens so tp speak!!! Getting ready to put out the Silkie babies (vandals) this weekend for good....... It will ease up some room (and lower the dust levels) but they need to be outside now.......

All is well here............

Suburbanchickymama, that is going to be a good size coop! Congrats!

My only suggestion is to cover the run with either mesh or a tarp. We've had more and more hawks here lately... I even found one stalking sitting on our deck rail yesterday. Then he hissed at me, and flew away.

They're getting brave!
