North Carolina

Help! My family & I will be transferring with my husband's job to either Winston salem or Raleigh areas. All the homes on the market in our range appear to be subdivisions. Could people please, please provide me with the names of subdivisions allowing hens & the limit? Thank you!

If you move to raleigh let me know. I lived there for about 4 years and my parents have been in a small town (holly springs) just outside raleigh for 14 years. A lot of those small towns (Cary, apex, holly springs and especially Fuquay Varina) allow chickens.

More Country and will tolerate chickens and other animals better* all within driving distance 15- 30 min and real estate is cheaper. Raleigh I don't know very well.

Also, Harnett or Lee counties. Both my husband, Larry, and youngest daughter, Sierra, work in Raleigh areas. We now have 21 acres straddling Harnett & Moore Counties, about 10 miles from US 1 (straight shot N to get to Raleigh) or can go towards Sanford via Hwy 87 & take bypass to US 1. Larry actually works in Cary & takes just under an hour to get there (works NIGHTs though, so diff traffic pattern) & Sierra about 40-45 minutes to get to work in Apex (US 1/Hwy 55) - also works nights.

I work in Moore Cty at the Spay Neuter Vet Clinic on US 1 N (between Vass & Southern Pines) & though only 15 mile drive, traffic patterns in AM w/ buses running takes a while. Usually takes me 20-30 minutes to cover that 15 miles via Hwy 690 & US 1! After work, I can shoot straight up US 1 to Hwy 78 (Tramway) and make it to the Carolina Town & Country feed store in Sanford in 30 minutes w/ heavy traffic... They stay open until 7pm. Then takes a bit longer to get back home again.

Besides going thru a Realtor, look up Auctions.com (I think?). Now I have to look back thru records... :) We found our property by accident thru our oldest daughter. It wasn't on any Realtor's radar & our Realtor had a hard time finding the MLS listing (did eventually - in CUMBERLAND county/Fayetteville). It had been listed for 8 months - never shown before we looked at it. We dickered, then ran into issues w/ closing. Spent 6 weeks in a hotel before finally closed on it... :(

There are properties available near us!!

Did you ever find what you were looking for? Had phone issues before when you were asking.....

maybe on the hens, let me sleep on it.....
I did, yes.
Got 11 Brown Leghorns and 4 Easter Eggers. Just put them out in introduction coop in chicken yard yesterday. Looks like I have 3:8 roo to hen in Leghorns and 1:3 in Easter Eggers.
Weather still unpredictably very cold nights in the 20’s but days in 40-60’s so with 15 to huddle I think they’ll be fine. They grew much faster than the Javas. They have been fully feathered for weeks.
