everyone...just like SCM said, we're neighbors!! I'm in Johnston County, but close to Wake!!
Daddy -
thank you so much for the pictures...going to give us some great ideas/suggestions!! Although, I will refrain from mentioning the idea of a flat screen as I think my DH would chose to make the coop his Man Cave instead of a coop if that were the case!!
Hope everyone is okay after last night's "storm"... I was woken up at 1am because a HUGE peel of thunder shook the whole house and scared the diaper right off DD!!
ok, not right off, but you get the picture I'm trying to paint!!
I admit it...I am completely and hopelessly addicted/infected with the "disease!!" I am blessed with a super supportive husband - who's stomach is looking forward to all the desserts I have promised him - who is a bit nervous to build something solo, but is looking forward to the challenge. The wood is FINALLY being delivered today!! Where we live, it is inaccessible to a semi-truck and they brought a semi-truck length flat bed the last time...this time they say they're bringing the same only with a fork lift and will drive the lift down our driveway...I hate to tell them that the path is 1 mile long - then you get to our driveway....oh well they "know" what they're doing and I'm just a "dumb woman" (they didn't SAY that, but their tone implied it....so I reserve the right to laugh hysterically when their plan FAILS). On the truck today is: 70 2x4x8's, 20 2x4x12's, 10 2x4x10's, 40 sheets of 1/2" 4x8 OSB board, 5 4x4x8's and more that I can't remember.
There's no backing out now!! The DH even ran to Lowes last night after work, before church to pick up some anchors (for the concrete ... to attach the 2x4's?? not exactly sure...I'm just the manager, the DD is the foreman!!), hinges and other "stuff"...I have to already make an exchange since the drill bit that he picked up isn't the right size...then he says to me, hey while you're there...wanna pick up a hammer drill - I don't think my drill will be able to bore a 1" hole in the concrete... "sigh" ANYTHING you wish dear to get the coop built!!
Have I mentioned how much I love this man?!?
I'm NOT allowed to help build - too dangerous for an accident prone helper.
so if anyone is driving around in Johnston County this weekend and has NOTHING to do on Saturday, you're MORE than welcome to stop by and help build...I KNOW you just WANT to help!!
!! Oh...and the camera is charged and ready to go!! Beware...I plan to take TONS of photos!!
SCM - if you have too many cochins you KNOW where you can drop them off....and let them grow...and see them WHENEVER you wish!! <wink wink>

Someone is bringing a blue cockerel to the show saturday that is for sale?? It is over in the chickenstock section under the Forsyth thread... Just thought I would pass that your way.
Good morning all you old timers and you newer ones too, lol yep we got that storm last night it was a hum dinger, hope we don't get the one allabout is getting now. yikes!!Sounds so exciting about the coop RuthAnn, looking forward to seeing all the pictures you can post. HT can my little ones get wet yet, I got soaked last evening , trying to round them 2 up so they wouldn't lol.I still think of them as babies but I guess they aren't now. My broodies are still sitting so hopefully we'll be hatching some chicks in about 21 days for my Brahma DiDi the 12th and the 6th for my lil frizzle ebbie, so eggcited about them little mixes. Everyones coop looking real good, and don't forget all them baby pictures. Have a great day everyone..
okay everyone...here is my very first coop photo!!
I'm excited!!
This is the concrete slab where the coop is going to be built. If you look in the back left hand corner of the concrete you can see the water pump & pail too!!
Just ignore the 2 2x4's that are laying there...they are so the OSB board doesn't sit on the wet concrete!! (read: scrap wood). The slab measures 10x20' so now you can see what we're working with. The coop will be built closer to the pump and have two double doors that open towards the other half of the concrete (so we can add another building later) and another 2 that open towards the opposite end. The windows will be on the "short" sides of the concrete (hope my menial explanation isn't too terrible). Maybe I'll even take a photo of all the building materials when they arrive...or maybe just of the delivery truck!! haha.
Wow...what a storm last night. I had my bay windows open in my dining room and the wind blew the screens right off, hit the dining table (thats what woke me up ). Trampoline and porch swing flipped over. And tons of tree debree = lots of clean up. Yip eee..
Not even sure what to do with the trampoline, I got it flipped back over and out of the trees ( just tangled up in them, not up in them ) but the legs are disconnected and it looks like a pringles potatoe chip. I may have to take the whole thing apart and start over.
Well..off to the library. Enjoy the nice sunny weather, I heard there is a FROST warning for tomorrow.

ML - I like having the water that close as well...that was one of the selling points for me. I can also see the slab from the kitchen/dining room area and our screened-in-porch so it makes keeping an eye on the little ones easier. I LOVE the idea of the hard hat...I will have to see if we can find one of her daddy's and put it on...if so I will be sure to post that with our construction photos!!
!!
BHep - I hope your dining room didn't get damaged in any way...ie" raining in or debris!! Sorry about the clean up!!
WHAT?? Frost??
Why can't our weather make up it's mind?? Off to paint the upstairs room before DD wakes up and decides it's time to play!!
Just WAITING for the delivery call...and
hoping/praying the flat bed is small enough to make it down our dirt path and can make the sharp turn into our driveway!!
