BHep - What are you going to do with all these chicks??

You know, I have a BIG barn just waiting to be filled with chickens...and 5 acres waiting to be debugged....more if I would let them roam in the field, but the grass is too high, so we might have to figure out a way to prevent them from going in there....that's LAST on our list.

Glad the Auction turned out well for you!! I'm staying away until the barn is built....otherwise I might get into TROUBLE!!

Yay!! Your raised beds look AMAZING!! I'm ready for any tips on organic gardening you want to send my way!!

The hive looks FANTASTIC!! Did you get to pick up your bees?? More importantly: did you pick up the epi pen?? Great job!! Once you beg for a new coop...we're only an hour away if you'd like help building it!!

I'm offering up my DH every chance I get...he's been having TOO much fun building this one for us!! I don't know what's going to keep him occupied once this is finished.

to Coop Scoop!!

Coop Update: Thank you everyone for your kind words on the coop!! I never realized how SORE I would be from squatting and cutting all day...lol. Guess running on an elliptical isn't the same muscle group as squatting at a miter saw!! My DH really NEEDS a work table or something!!

. Just found out my mother plans to visit us for Easter

so I'm hoping the coop is done before then, because I know she'd LOVE to cuddle with the chicks!! My plans for this week is to pick up some tar paper and shingles for the roof (still trying to figure out WHAT I am doing there...haha). We're hopefully going to finish the whole thing (Lord willing) this weekend and then it will be just painting and finalizing bits and pieces here and there. We'll see. The Forman has NOT been cooperating lately....stupid teeth!! I'm hoping to have the run done this weekend as well...so question for you all: Would we/should we put Hardwire Cloth on the top of the run (it's going to be about 7' tall at it's high point and 6' tall at it's low point) or would we be able to get away with chicken wire? We're planning to put hardwire cloth and chicken wire on the base and bury ~2' of wire into the ground. Will that be ok? Thanks everyone!! Have a GREAT day!!

NH - I've been fighting the hardware cloth battle w/ my hubby b/c it is so darn expensive but we are headed to AgriSupply in Garner today to get it for the whole thing - WAAAYYYY cheaper than Lowes - http://www.agrisupply.com/hardware-cloth/c/2200006/c2c/sc/ I can't believe your coop is going to be done next weekend!!!

Egg update - went ahead and bit the bullet and cracked open 6 more cochin eggs - totally clear. :-( There are really only 3 left that I should keep but I couldn't do it so am just going to wait a bit longer just in case.

But my eggs that will go into lockdown in just 2 days are looking sooo good! And so are my 7 Ameraucana eggs!!

My chicks are still in the incubator. Its a Brinsea and the top is plastics & hard to see through. But once they are out, I will get pics.

Sounds like everyone had a great weekend getting alot done, congrats on the new chicks G&A and also BHep, hope the rest of you hatch goes great scm, and that bee hive is way cool vfem.. we are having beautiful weather today, not so tomorrow, but we'll take today. ya'll have a great day, and Ruthann tell the foreman to take the day off she deserves it..

Thank you so much, DD is doing MUCH better today. I bought her one of those "rubber" first tooth toothbrushes, and she was gnawing away at it just as content as could be.

As for the DH building another one...I'm thinking he's not going to be too happy to do much of anything for a while. Hehe...I texted him at work today to tease him...

I told him all this powerful wind we've been having today...I told him the barn fell over.

He was so apologetic on his "shoddy" workmanship...it killed the joke.

Needless to say, I don't think he'll be building anything for me anytime soon, once this one gets finished. I'll send him your way and he can build you another!!

Edited to share: opened the doors up to get the nice breeze in when I was ATTACKED by a giant lizard.

After wrestling with both cats I managed to rescue the bugger and toss him back outside.

I still have NO idea how they are getting in!!

Oh well...at least there was some free entertainment in my house today!!
