Well my mom and me had a pretty good day at the flock swap yesterday. There was chicks $6-$10, ducks, ducklings $5, quail, pheastens, dogs, goats, lambs $50, bunnies, turkey, kittens, gamecocks, young cattle, duck eggs $10/dz, Hens the ones I asked about was silkie for $20 each, and roos $ couple dallors for silkie up to $20 for big ones.

Hey everyone, what a beautiful weekend we have had here in NC. We worked on he coop all day yesterday and ended up get the wall frames made but it was way to windy to attempt to put them up so we started on the panels for the run. This morning we have gotten 2 of the 4 wall frames up and the rafters for the roof on that side. Now we are out of screws so DH is gone to Lowe's to pickup more. He made a trip last night to get plywood, hinges, etc. but we didn't even realize we were low on screws, so now this is taking a hour away from our day.

Oh and I walked into my FIL's building for the first time ever today and what do I see? A big wooden box about 2x2x2. My first thought.....brooder box!

He asked me if I needed it for anything and said he would clean it out for me to have

I must have chicken brain, when I see something that people think is junk I immediatly start thinking about how I can use it.

Congrats on all the hatches everyone! And good luck on the coop building!!

We're starting to make progress. I still need to put the brooder together (probably after lunch today). We picked up the wood for the coop. Spent about 100 dollars at Lowes on it. 5 sheets of cheep plywood (we'll be taking down an old barn over the summer and my mom is redoing grandma's house and has a lot of wood from that that I plan to use as siding for the coop) and several 2X4s. My mom had gotten some coupons earlier in the week (10$ off a 50$ purchase) so my hubby went through with some of the wood and I went through with the rest. Can't complain about saving nearly 20%!

The coop is going to be built and kept under an existing 2 walled shelter. The roof is going to be kinda non functional unless I do decide to slope it out a little. We plan to start building the frame next weekend, right now, we're waiting for some empty 5 gallon paint buckets to be used concrete forms because the area is pretty unlevel we want to make sure the uprights on the frame are well planted. We hope to have the chicks in the coop by the time they are about 4 or 5 weeks old, even if we don't let them out of the coop for a few weeks after that. Lets just hope it keeps getting warmer.

Hey everyone haven't been on here in a while. I am still trying to catch up on reading.
