I have come out in the morning and found headless chickens in the run. Apparently a racoon snatched their heads right off. Yup, you need to add some hardware cloth. I would go with the 3ft. and use the first foot as an apron around the run to prevent anything from digging under.

Taking notes. Coop is about half completed and will keep this in mind for the run. Haven't seen any hawks the past few weeks but when I put the chickens out they will come. My plan had foxes and possums in mind.

Hey everyone, checking in with a hatch update. So far we have:
1 of 2 blue bantam orps
4 of 4 project color bantam orps
2 of 2 English lav F1's (split black)
3 of 6 English Blue/Black LF orps

Some till pipping and zipping, all is going well.

Hi All! I am planning on moving back South in the next few Months from NY State and was hoping to make some great contacts before I get there and find out the scoop on the ordinances!

I have three incubators going right now with Silkies, Orpies, Marans, Cochins and the list goes on

. Anyway, we have a potential move to the Lenoir area or any where around the Hickory area. I would love to bring my Sumatras and some of my other birds - I was wondering what the codes were in that area and I would like to join this thread as well so I can start the change over from my pals at the NY thread - I sure will miss them but I know I need to start reaching out.

Some of the homes we are looking at seem to be in subdivisions but have about half an acre. Right now we have a very nice home on about 8 acres so this will definitely be a change for us again. Not Military, just tired of the NY cold!

Thanks!

Fyrekitten to the NC area. Sadly, I am NOT close to Hickory area so I cannot help you there, but I know there are several near the Hickory area, so they will definitely be able to help you!!

G&A: SO sweet!!! Can't wait to see momma and her chicks!!

I just can't wait to see what the English ones look like!! I am sure they are just sweet!!

FINALLY the rain stopped and the DH and I were able to get a little bit more accomplished on the run. Sadly, we ran out of light to be able to do more. Hopefully we will be able to finish it tomorrow, but I am picking up a few extra supplies tomorrow - some 2x2's to make the DH's job easier!! Here's an update of what we have done thus far:

I have so many chicks hatching in the Dickey and there is only this tiny window to barely see through. I think some of my blue mystery eggs are hatched, I see large white ish and buff colored chicks in there. I am going to have to open it for a second to slip a tray in. Hope I don't shrink wrap anyone.
