Chickens eat.....chicken !

After we finish our roast chickens I put out the carcus and they lick it clean...no joke !!!!

Yup I feed my chickens, ducks & peafowl ALL my food scraps except onions and candy.

They get at it like they have been starved all week...

Lol...I am sure that they devour it! I don't have a problem with people feeding it to their chickens. Personally, I don't. I do feed cooked eggs for protein. I am so glad the pullets can free range. They eat the largest bugs! I could do without walking in chicken poop, but oh well

When I lived at my last house my neighbors had a ton of chickens. I would be gardening, and I could hear them singing/talking to their chickens. They had some wild names for them too. I thought it was hilarious. I called them the crazy chicken people. Well, I understand it now! I talk to my chicks all the time. I guess I am a crazy chicken person now.

A lot of family/friends don't understand why I treat them more like pets than livestock.
idunno.gif
I just enjoy them!

Well I laid to rest the one chick I was trying really hard to save, my blue bantam orp that was a full sibling to my gorgeous pullet that I plan to show this fall.
hit.gif
Have a few more of the same eggs collected that I will be setting this friday.

**If anyone is interested I have 8 lavender& split black orpington eggs available and could ship them asap!!
big_smile.png

Went in lockdown this evening with 8 of 8 shipped Ameraucana eggs, I think that is awesome for shipped eggs!
fl.gif
They are silver roo over lav hens so I can't wait to grow some out.
big_smile.png

Also have 6 buff bantam orpingtons and 4 English split lavs in lockdown as well. I know, small hatch huh?

Hey Beth, next week I put my first serama eggs of the season into lockdown.
ya.gif
These are off my rooster that is a choc carrier over a choc carrier hen, dun hen and a black (who I still think may be infertile
sad.png
). Can't wait to see what I get as I have never used this rooster over serama's before.
wink.png

Awww sorry you lost your chick HT...
hugs.gif
can't wait to see what you get on the Serama's.
The 1st batch of shipped eggs I got, I hatched only 1 rooster, can you believe that ! and 3 hens. have a few more but they are too young. They do not shio well at all. I hatched 10 chicks out of 47 eggs from 2 different sellers
th.gif
no more of those ! I have a nice start up flock.

I lost 2 yesterday.. My little saddleback gosling and a polish. The gosling had a pooping problem, he couldn't, it just drizzled out
sickbyc.gif
He was only 2 days old

The Polish

I call it SCD... sudden chick dealth. Some just don't have the needs to survive.
sad.png
AND my little Lav. Orp. that had the umbilical cord wrapped around her foot is failing fast
hit.gif

Lets see............ yesterday I opened the cage to my new pigeons and the male flies up on the roof.
barnie.gif
These are the same birds that everyone tells me hardly can fly due to their size.
tongue.gif
Well he had a blast flying around up there for 2 plus hours, then came down to the porch and my mom walked over and picked him up and put him back in the cage with his daughter
clap.gif
My plan is to let them have the run of the barn, once I build them a proper pigeon cage and they get used to their new home. I was told at leaast 5 weeks.
hu.gif
Glad only 1 got out, I think they would have flown away together otherwise.

ETA: little lav gone

I am planning a better day today

I have a mama hen due to hatch 3 chicks Thur.&Fri. so hope everything goes well here..

I also have a mama hen who is having problems, maybe one of ya'll have seen this, she hatched her 2 chicks on Easter Sunday, was doing good till 2 weeks into hatch out [for lack of a better word] then she started getting wobbly, it's been a week since she can't walk very good. eats a little but is mostly just letting her chicks get up under her. I really don't know what to do for her, I scramble eggs give her greek yogurt I wormed her because I did see round worms in her poo, She will eat meal worms [dried] but thats about it.
sad.png
if ya'll have any suggestions I would appreciate any help I can get to get her back on her feet. Also I am giving her nutri drench in her water and electrolytes switching off every other day. To be off her feet for so long she is still alert. thanks.

Beth, sorry to hear your losses too.

ML - Have no clue on that one?? You are doing everything that I would probably tell you to do, please keep us posted.

I have one more trauma with my favorite serama hen Lacey. She has what I can only guess is a prolapsed vent and is not getting better.
hit.gif
She can't walk very good and make funny cooing sounds now and sleeps most of the time. I don't look for her to be with us that much longer and I hate to think that she is probably in pain.
sad.png
I wish I could fix it but I can't.
