I hope there are lots of people there who are looking for some roos-- Gavin said this morning one of the buff Oprs was starting to crow -- that makes us 3 crowing and about 10 that will be any day --- YIKES

Ht have you tried all the things everyone says to do, sugar mixed into a paste and spread over prolaspe? suppose to shrink tissue the very carefully push back in. also honey, prep H? all of these are recommended for prolaspe, and gently pushing back in after tissue shrinks. So sorry this has happened, The most important thing is not to let it dry out. So sorry I hope she gets better.

I think I am Crazy Chicken People on my street... well Gavin anyways - If you all did not know Gavin is seeing another female- here is what happens every night - I get home from work cook him dinner ( last night I made corn on the cobb, mashed taters and pork chops ) - he gets home eats so quick I am wondering of he is really chewing his food --- when he is finished he informs me -" I am going out to see my girlfriend " .. So he heads out the back door with the cobbs -- and go stright to his " OTHER woman " ... a flirt she is a young buff orp , who is slowing taking my husband -- she hops on his knee and talks to him ... the hussie --

I am glad my DH has not spent too much time out in the barn, or else I fear that Jemimah Puddleduck our BO might become his "other" #3...right now I am the other lady as our DD is in 1st place.
gig.gif
She found out that you can stand at the door with a plastic cup in your hand, bang on the glass and shout "da-da" an it's suppose to make him come home faster!!
hu.gif
she did it all afternoon yesterday!!
gig.gif

So...I have one crower and 2 that just "grunt". I thought chickens like to roost...mine sleep in a huddle mass.
gig.gif
actually two of the chickens (both LO) will literally bury themselves underneath the rest
hu.gif
no clue as to why they do that. The barn is not wet, drafty, cold, hot...actually most of the time it's more comfortable in there than in our house!! The horrible monster that comes in several times of day must have them terrified, especially when it tries to "pet" them.

Just a newbie question...when do you start to feed layer feed to your chickens? Do you have to feed the roos separately since they are obviously not laying?!? I am trying to get my order in for some feed and didn't know when to start them on that. I believe they are somewhere between 12-14 weeks old. (I honestly can't remember how long I've had them....
gig.gif
ok it was 4/16 and they were 9wks old...so they're almost 14 weeks.)

Also, has anyone heard from Reedy Forks Farms?? I sent them an email a while back asking them about their prices for their organic feed and where in Raleigh they deliver, but I never heard back from them. Does anyone know?

Hey all... wow... I just can't seem to get time to get my BYC fix everyday anymore.
hmm.png

The season is in full swing so I'm planting, harvesting and canning... plus my job... and of course, I have a fully wild 4 year to attend too all day everyday! Add to that the animals and its long dark before my day is finished.

Anyways, my sweet little cochin and cochin/EE mix babies are no longer babies. They are huge now, sweet as buttons as well. So that means we're on to building ANOTHER coop. One more couldn't hurt anything!
lol.png
Anyways, hopefully when that gets going I can come share pictures of the work. Its not going to be anything grand... its just a doghouse conversion with run. However, I am planning a raised bed with a wire mesh lid inside the run, and I'll be growing the "My Pet Chicken 'Chicken Salad Seed Mix' " in it. That way they have access to green tops regularly.

As for now, those little ones aren't going to last much long in the quarantine pen, so we need to make a move soon! (Hubby is one of those people who think we have all the time in the world.) The kicker, my muscovy has been sitting on eggs for 30 days this week!!! So I'm going to have ducklings happening at ANY moment, and those babies were supposed to go into the quarantine pen until I knew what to do with them?! Which reminds me....

Anyone want ducklings!?!?!?
roll.png

vfem, I have a muscovy sitting on eggs too but not due to hatch till first of june, I know what you mean about space though i have xlarge dog crates sitting every where right now, and my dh says no more coops
