5 to 7 days I believe and don't eat the eggs for 10 to 12 days. Glad to hear they are doing better. Can you give your little hen some epsom salt soaks they may help her foot and leg.

For anyone that may be interested I just posted a young "Bantam" Marans pair in the 8 weeks & younger sale section.

I know what you mean. It's been flashing and popping around us for days, today we finally got a little. I'm east of the Gaston/Linclon County line. Storms come over the mountains and the split when they hit Spencer Mt. and I get Nuffin!!

Good evening everyone.

to the newbies!!

Just started planning my work for the wedding cake that I have coming due in September. Found out they want several different flavors, white/pink/purple roses and a bunch of other "stuff".

it just started raining here and we are very excited for it. We have been desperate for rain (especially for our well...it needs refilling) and our wonderfully failing garden might just try to pop something out.

my beautiful boys have been getting sweeter to the girls... I gave them some treats and heard them trying to entice the girls to come to their stash. How sweet. My husband would rather keep the treats for himself rather than share...

I might have to send him out and get some pointers from my Jeremy!!

Hi folks! Thought it was time to say hello to my fellow NC folks. I'm Amber. Have a wonderful hubby and two very energetic children and a pair of lunatic dogs. I live right between Winston Salem and Greensboro, on just under 2 acres. We've got a very lazy pony, and a bunch of beautiful Silkies. I also have my EE flock of 4, with the world's prettiest rooster. I have become addicted to this forum, and am learning so much!

I've met up with one person nearby and she was kind enough to give me a couple of her BEAUTIFUL Silkies, and I would love to meet some more of ya'll! I'm also in search of someone with Showgirls, frizzled Silkies, or frizzled Cochins. Anybody nearby who might be able to sell me a couple birds?

Rained for about an hour today. Hard rain. We got over 2 inches. Just as it started a down draft came down right in the middle of the yard. I was out in the feed shed. I could not see past the wall of wind as it rushed towards me. Alot of birds got wet since shelters don't work for sideways rain. All the little ones were kept dry and safe by their mothers. I did rush up to check the PVC pen that has Dumpling, d'Uccle, and her 8 babies. Lucky I had just staked it down last night when it looked like a storm was coming.

The down draft flatten the garden. Everything that was not tied up is on the ground. You can see the part in the bush beans where the draft was centered. Half go one way and the rest the other. 80% of the corn was down. Most was just bent so it was righted to see if it will finish making. It is so far along we would hate to lose it all. Looks like most of the Squash plants are ok. A few broke leaves won't be too damaging.

My big Dahlia bed in the middle of the lower garden was fine. Only 2 of them are down and I think they are just bent over. I guess I have motivation to get them tied to the stakes this week.

I did go down this evening while feeding supper. I was already hurting from sliding around, but then went down face first in the outer lot. The birds are freeranging, so the lot is only where they go to eat. JJ, my big show cochin, walked over to laugh at me. I think I am just sore. Tomorrow will show the truth.

I hope everyone else is ok after today's storms.

Matt

Squishypuff! Nice to meet ya!

Bhep, I'll be happy if I can just GIVE the guys away! So far all my neighbors have been so nice about the chickens (not really a chickeny kinda neighborhood) but I really don't want to push my luck. My super nosy in-your-business kind of neighbor has been strangely not around - get the feeling it's because he's not too happy with the situation. Only 1 of the boys crows right now, and it's really not that loud, but I would like to avoid any issues. And I do hate it, and the crower is pretty sweet, the other not so much really. I will miss them though!!!!!!! If I can find someone to take them, that is!!!

Good Morning folks
