Thank you so much....I needed a good laugh this morning!!

I am ashamed to say I was rather late in putting my chickens away last night, but BOY am I GLAD I was!!

I am the big mean monster in the coop with a flash light doing a head count (you know, just to be sure). I see I have ALL but one of my orps on the roost (

the top roost too). There's the two buffs, two of the three blacks and two lavenders...so my orps are accounted for.

The new girls are perched on the divider fence (aka dog kennel) right underneath a window....BUT there are only 3!! Tabitha (the white), Lucie (the spotted) and Susan (the blackish speckledish one)...where's Dutchess?? Okay, maybe someone moved while I was doing a head count. So I stand IN the coop for a good 10 minutes counting/recounting....still missing one. Panicked now, I am racing around the coop in the dark (in my PJ's now you know how LATE it is!!) looking for how she could have gotten out. I double check the run, double check her side, no openings, no sign of anyone getting loose...so just as I am about to run and get DH and make him help me search...I go back inside to do ONE last head count. This time I am shining the light on each and every bird as I count. Well, this must have startled one of them, because they all ruffled their feathers and then....then I see it!!

So this whole time Dutchess was perched ON THE ROOST with the orps and I mistook her for my lavender (hey it was dark). So now panic again sets in and I realize that Mrs. Tiggy-Wiggy is missing...

Then I see her BURIED underneath Flopsy on the floor in the corner. So I basically gave myself a heart attack for nothing, BUT... it goes to show that at least Dutchess has been accepted by the "big kids" for she was on the top roost right along with them!!

I am wondering if that's because she is the biggest of the new 4 or if she's just more assertive? She will jump the fence to go out into the run with the big kids and not care. They chase her around a bit, and she will run in and jump over the divider (then she gives them that "nah-nah-na-bo-boo" look).

I am hoping they continue to warm up to one another!!

This weekend we are building DD a sandbox for her 1st (

) birthday so I am going to let them mingle together while we are there to supervise and hopefully

all will go so well we can keep the barrier down!! So there you have it...my exciting adventure in Chickenland Ladies and Gentlemen...stay tuned next week for another exciting episode!!

BHep, I haven't done in the duck. It's actually a she... and my drake chases her and all she wants to do is fly up on me and my deck and the coops and get in the house to escape him. She's driving me nuts! I'll find her chasing off my cat to get her food because she won't go back to the pond and she's making me loopy! I'm forever screaming at her to "Go be a duck!!!!"

I never thought an animal could be too sweet!

We had a great weekend, sorry I was away. We went to Wrightsville Beach all day Sunday, and met a girl I work with to rehome my Black tailed white Japanese Bantam roo Gingko. He should be happy at his new home, free range ability and a bunch of girlfriends all to himself!

Today I'm going to visit a friend for a bit, but when I get back I'm going to move my little Birchen Jap Banties into his coop. I tried to rehome them, cute little pair.... but since he's gone I have room for them both so they can stay long as the 2 'whacky sisters' approve to let them in their coop!

Then maybe I'll have time to get some canning done. I got blueberries coming out my ears!

I am happy to hear they are getting along better.

the gray/white striped one is a cuckoo, the black with gold neck is black copper.

Took 34 chickens and 5 ducks to the auction Sun. Came home with 2 bunnies.

Also sold 1 of my runner drakes, to the lady that bought my ducklings at the auction. 3 more to go. I will take them to the auction next time I go, there are just too many, poor girls.

Hatched out 5 GL Polish & 2 NN this AM, for my DS b-day hatch. Also 1 Austrolorp & 1 sizzle under a broody. She was sitting on duds, so I gave her 2 to hatch, so far so good.
