Chicks hatching like popcorn. Hatching 2 days early after a 4 hour power outage. I know for sure that 18 are out so far. The others are in the cabinet incubator and I can't see in.

ARGH!

I got up this morning after being allowed to sleep in. Hubby knew I was tired and didn't want to stress me out with something he tried to handle. A dog got loss from the trailer park behind us and came to visit my chicken coops. How he figured it out, I do not know, but he knocked a piece of wood off of the coop and noticed that he could then open the top of the coop roof as it was hinged. He then took and ate my cochin rooster before anyone knew what happened. The selfish mutt came back when my husband caught him, opened the coop right in front of him and took my favorite EE/Cochin mix pullet 'Strawberry'. My husband chased him with the BB gun and tried to get him to drop the pullet but he wouldn't and vanished off into the trailer park.

For now we have wood and shovels holding down the roof door until we can get the wood piece back on and set up a new latch system.

I'm so heart broken, it was a beautiful roo... but lossing Strawberry breaks my heart to pieces as she's the only pullet/hen I have who would sit on my shoulder and my lap while I'm out in the garden. She wanted to be close to me at all times and sometimes I think she understood me when I talked because she actually listened to me the whole time I went about garden chores.

Not what I wanted to wake up to this morning!
