Bob will be missed around the yard. He did surprisingly well for himself.

And sorry about your little polish buttercup.

And happy belated birthday!

This past week and weekend we managed to rehome all 4 roosters (

) and gave 3 girls to a friend to start her flock. So we now have 9 girls left - our official flock! We decided when they were little chicks that we'd hold off naming them til we knew everyone was healthy and who we were going to keep. So now that it's all sorted out here's the official introductions!

Hang on, y'all - we have a hurricane coming.

What are all you coastal and piedmont folks doing to prep? I've gotten water jugs filled for the chickens' and goats' drinking water that will last about 2 days. I'm looking around for just about anything that will hold water. Tomorrow is looking like feed run/grocery store day to grab some canned goods and bottled water for us. Hopefully, if Irene does hit, the electricity won't go out for very long. I've got a deep freezer about full of garden veggies. When it's this hot, making soup out in the yard in the gas cooker sucks.

Here's a thread about Irene I created if you are interested: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=560753

I'll pass on all your compliments to the ladies! Thanks, all!

Green - I'm nervous about the hurricane! Too much family at the beach - both north and south!!!

Good idea about getting water ready just in case. My love of storms disappeared the day I had my 1st baby. Now I'm a mess!

Bhep - let me know if you have any older pullets - my friend may be looking for 2 more!

Howdy folks!

DH got a new job in Cary so I'm leaving the CO thread and coming here! Currently staying with family in Winston-Salem. We're looking for houses with Apex or Raleigh addresses. My understanding is that barring HOAs, I can have poultry and bees in those, correct?

SCM I have 2 serama sisters named Sookie & Tara, there brother is Lafayette. HAHAHAHAaa My other little serama roo is Eric Northman.

Haven't named the rest, waiting to sex them, but seem to be hens, so will follow the theme.

I have an old silkie rooster named Jacob Black. Thats it on the Twilight names.

Do you just watch Trueblood or have you read the books. They are real...real different then the TV series. Excellent reading....11 books so far I think. My niece lent them to me & my mom. Now my niece is re-reading them.

And I JUST went to the auction yesterday and sold 59 birds.

lots of younger birds, but 4 POL pullets. So I am fresh out of sale hens at the moment. If I decide to sell anymore I will let you know 1st.

We are keeping an eye on the hurricane tract, If it comes this way, we will be prepared, I moved here from FL last winter, lived in FL for 5yrs, my Mom lived there 19 years. No strangers to hurricanes here.

Welcome.......... I am about an hour out of Raleigh. Not sure what the rules are, but sure all the other will chime in. Quiet a few from that area on here.
