Of course! Taking the kids too. DD keeps trying to talk DH into a rabbit...not happening, but we do need a new LF roo since Red went to freezer camp...

Still trying to figure out housing for when the D'Uccles are bigger. Do I downsize others or combine differently... Ugh. I feel like I know just enough to be dangerous but not enough to be useful!

I'm thinking buff Orpington. 2 of my LF hens are buffs. I'd guess around six months or so. The girls haven't started laying yet but could any day as they are close to five months themselves. I'm hoping a buff will be friendlier than the rir roo turned out.

Beth, since you do so much hatching, when do you integrate chicks into your coops? Or do you use broodies?

Can you believe it ! BOs are one breed I do not have.

So can't help you out there. I have never be fond of RIRs, they are crabby.

I brood the chicks in the house until they are fully feathered, move them to grow out pens for a few weeks then open the door and let them free range with the rest. When they are breeding age & laying I separate them into breeding group, if I want pure eggs.

I rarely use broodies.... if a hen goes broody I give her some barnyard mixes to hatch....

Do you have any pics of your different set ups that you could post? And Murphys Law dictated the one breed I was looking for would be one you don't have!

. Thanks for thinking of it! How many different breeds do you have?

AWESOME !!!! 20 sent...18 to lock down & 16 are hatched & last 1 zipping now. 7 Splits & 9 lavender so far.

I candled the last egg with a better flashlight with a new battery and it was a dud. So hatching wise this was 100% hatch.

Now your eggs are due tomorrow. 1 of Jamie's is pipped already.
