Not sure on that one.

I feed mine oatmeal so I can't see why baby cereal would hurt them. not sure I'd give the formula though. Chickens are lactose intolerant.

are they really?? why can they have yogurt milk and cheese then? hhmm. I dont want to hurt them.. should I not be feeding any of that other stuff either?

Hey any fellow BYCers Maran breeders??

I lucked out and was able to purchase 1 BCM hen and 1 Cuckoo Maran. While I was there I picked up over 20 roosters!! Most are bound for freezer camp.

I have 15 Lavender Orpington roosters, 4 BCM roosters, and about 3 Blue Maran roosters.

Does anyone want a shot at any of these before I start shoveling them the food?

yogurt is fremented so they can have small amount. I don't give mine milk but buttermilk is another good one for probiotics. cheese is not good for them but sometimes I do give mine a little shredded. All I know is what someone said on BYC and alot of people agreed that chickens are lactose intolerant.

How are the boys doing? Are they getting friendlier, still letting you pet them? They still have a bit of growing to do

We had a small issue with the Black and white one.. He wouldnt let anyone near him and avoided the coop.. BUT now he is doing better. Took a day or two of searching him down after dark and carrying him back to the coop and hand feeding him to get him to warm up to me..
gig.gif
(they are SOOOO SPOILED!) The multi comes running when he sees me and loves to be held! Still having small issues here and there with the "pecking order" getting worked out.. My girls are not being kind at all!
idunno.gif
But I know it is something that takes time.. No one has been brutally injured. So far so good!

I do have one question. Did they ever crow while with you? I have yet to hear either one crow
sad.png
My white rooster is trying to crow and his brothers (rip
hit.gif
) were both avid crow-ers.. clockwork... Is it just being moved to another location or is it the breed is slower with that?

They were in with the other juvis and I don't think any of the roos are quite old enough for crowing yet on a regular basis. They are about 4 months, not older than 5 months and since they were in a juvi pen but close to other older roos they may be holding back on the crowing till they are old enough/big enough to deal with a larger dominate rooster enforcing a pecking order. JMHO

I have plenty of people grossed out by the duck eggs.
idunno.gif
Think it is just the thought. My friend gets eggs from me every week....but they must be brown, no green one.

Another friend only gets her's from Piggly Wiggly....apparently, they don't come from the chickens butt.

We use them for everything. The are good and make super fluffy scrambled eggs.

Got another dozen today, almost can't wait for them to quit laying.
hide.gif
10 dozen in the fridge now, fed 3 dozen to the chickens this morning.

CSB... the only downfall of decorating the ducks eggs. They lay them on the ground and sometimes I just can't get the stains out. Suggestions...............

dye them like at easter time or..........if I can find it will show you what we did with pigeon eggs a few years ago.....would work great with duck eggs.

Ah! okay.. mine are a little closer to the 6 month mark.. 24 or 25 weeks..

Makes sense now.. I think we are finally getting somewhere with them.. both put themselves in the coop tonight AND they are running to the food bowls with very few problems..

I am glad to hear they are fitting in for you. They should get to be a fair sized bird once they finnish growing and finally put on some weight and bulk to the body. They are in that growing age and just don't get much to them body wise. They didn't have much problem getting to the feed trough here but being it's a new place they probably had to learn it all again.
