Hmmm.. should be someone in your neck of the woods. I have plenty, but over 3 hours away. Plus there are some shows coming up out your way. I believe there will be birds for sale and you could possibly arrange for someone to bring you hatching eggs.

Hi! Welcome new people! I could not figure out why my Dorking hybrids were not laying and they were old enough! Well I was helping DH load the lawnmower on the trailer and I looked to my left and seen a huge nest with about 20 eggs!

Then my Dorking hen sat on them and has not gotten up since! 3 days ago! I candled an egg and it is + baby! She(they) have this nest in the center of a bunch of thorn plants and is shaded from hawks, my question is should I move her or leave her? I don't know if a stray dog or raccoon could get her? Any Suggestions, this is my 1st broody!

Don't be jealous because BHep and I are smart and start our Christmas shopping early!!
lau.gif
Okay, in reality it was for a completely selfish reason I am trying to get my shopping done. My IN LAWS are coming for Thanksgiving (

) and I wanted to save myself the money of having to ship presents (especially presents for family members that we don't know but are in a Christmas pool....yeah). For my immediate family, I TOTALLY wait until the last minute to buy stuff...I mean for them I don't even start until like April or May...so see, I am a complete procrastinator!!

Today my SIL wants to try to make a pumpkin pie from scratch so we are going out shopping for pumpkins (pie pumpkins) later on today. On a chicken note :

I collected SIX eggs yesterday...that means just one of my girls isn't laying daily (or maybe two are still going every other day). From these results...it has been decided that I NEED more hens and DH said that come the show in Dec...I MIGHT be able to pick some up!!

Reeree.. congrats on the broody.

Do you have a dog kennel or something to put her & the eggs in? If so, "I" would move her. Just "my personnel opinion" . You are right...she is sitting pray for a raccoon, possum, dogs etc.... Good luck.

I am sorry. Blame it on my DH who wakes me up every morning with his annoying alarm. Although this morning we woke up to a flood in my refrigerator....

OOPS, apparently my SIL didn't put the cap on the Root Beer tight enough, or something after DH and her had a RB Float.

Okay, I am just up with my roosters!!

Please just enjoy your egg salad, especially since I still can't eat any!!

Well sounds good on the egg count, keep in mind they say chickens lay an egg an hour later than they did the day before. They don't normally lay after dusk, so you'll have a day with no egg from a hen. Unless they are pmsing, lol like my polish or any others I may want eggs from for a reason other than eating

)

I do my christmas shopping throught out the year and hide it at grandma's house

If you move the broody, try to do it at night and move her to DH's hands, than move eggs and some of the nest materials to the new nest and than place her on them. Dog kennels work great like Bhep said. This way you can lock her in and give her food, water and keep out the unwanted. good luck.
