North Carolina

Hello all. I am pretty new to BYC and the NC site.

A friend just gave us our first Silkies, a hen and roo. The hen was sitting some cochin eggs so I got those too. Now we have 9 little peeps.

We like to let our chickens cluck around the barn and pastures. They are good to come in the barn to roost at night. The flock has not been getting out as often as they would like. We have been having problems with preditors all summer. Never have known exactly which varmit is plaguing us. We know we have coyote, fox, skunk, racoons, hawks, etc. We never find anything but feathers in the pasture. So who knows.

We have a little Millie Fleur hen that has been on the loose and have been worried for her out alone. Haven't been able to find where she is roosting. We have alot of hay in the barn so I am sure she is hiding somewhere within. She has evaded our attempts to catch her, the little cluck.

I looked for her all morning because she has been coming around to clean up the grain the calves are dropping, but she did not show today. Later I went back in the coop and wonder of wonders there she was with everyone else. We let everyone out for the first time in a couple of weeks yesterday afternoon, I guess she finally got lonely and came in with them.

I guess I have rambled on enough this evening.

Later!

HenniPenni, if you are able to keep the silkies apart from full size birds. They have soft skulls, and a peck from one of the larger birds can injure or kill them easily. Would never want that as Silkies are so lovable and huggable.....

welcome-byc.gif
to all the new chicks!! You're in for a treat as these are the best BYC'ers out there!! I learn a ton from them all....not to mention some (like BHep) enable my addiction and others (like HT, ML & Gavin) try to FUEL my addiction by telling me all the wonderful breeds they are breeding or hatching or ones you JUST NEED to have in your flock!!
smile.png
Everyone on here is absolutely wonderful!! I hope you enjoy your visit and become regulars!!

Arianna - I am so happy to hear you had a happy ending. She sure is a beauty and I am glad you found her!! On a side note, if my DH ever gets fed up with all my chickens...can we come live with you??
lau.gif
I showed him your set up and he said, "that isn't a coop and a run, that's chicken HEAVEN!"
smile.png

BHep - I do hope you find your missing guy...Even the dullest bulb in the box can have moments of pure genius - so maybe he's out smarting the snake!!

Still hoping for good news on your little noisy one!!

<sigh> Today is a day FREE of family and visitors...I am running to the store for a few staple items (can you believe I am OUT of peanut butter?? Whoever has heard of such a thing??) and then DD and I are spending the day getting the quilt top sewn together hopefully....and when I get bored with that perhaps I will go back to working on DD's two fall OWL jumpers (her first word aside from Da-Da was OWL...haha...she's a bird addict already!!
