Hello all. I am pretty new to BYC and the NC site.
A friend just gave us our first Silkies, a hen and roo. The hen was sitting some cochin eggs so I got those too. Now we have 9 little peeps.
We like to let our chickens cluck around the barn and pastures. They are good to come in the barn to roost at night. The flock has not been getting out as often as they would like. We have been having problems with preditors all summer. Never have known exactly which varmit is plaguing us. We know we have coyote, fox, skunk, racoons, hawks, etc. We never find anything but feathers in the pasture. So who knows.
We have a little Millie Fleur hen that has been on the loose and have been worried for her out alone. Haven't been able to find where she is roosting. We have alot of hay in the barn so I am sure she is hiding somewhere within. She has evaded our attempts to catch her, the little cluck.
I looked for her all morning because she has been coming around to clean up the grain the calves are dropping, but she did not show today. Later I went back in the coop and wonder of wonders there she was with everyone else. We let everyone out for the first time in a couple of weeks yesterday afternoon, I guess she finally got lonely and came in with them.
I guess I have rambled on enough this evening.
Later!
