[Coop Scoop Boogie]

Good morning folks

As much as my old bones hurt with the
cold, I am thankful for the cooler and hope
we get cold enough this winter too kill
off many of these bugs that are plaguing
us and the birds........not so sure I'd
want snow though.........and more rain,
we need water.

We are slowly rearranging the coops
and adding new birds.....the plan is
starting to come together

Mornin', Mornin', Mornin'!

All the chickies still doing fine. I'm about to move the younger ones in with the ones two weeks older. I released three from the cage yesterday, and watched, and there was no trouble to anyone with it, so they are all coming down...probably tomorrow when I get home.

Guard Turkey is still doing her job!

Took Reilly in to the vet to look at his entropion again while nothing is flared up, and she's thinking he won't need surgery afterall. It's pretty minor. She thinks that he may have damaged his eye last month through some other means and the curled lids just kept it irritated. Very different from them causing it. So that's save me some big bucks for surgery! Yay!

Hollow - I really DO want a guard turkey!! LOL So when you start filling orders, please make mine the first one?!?

I think I need to start starving my guineas and chickens (the ducks are at least eating spiders..I've seen them...they get EXTRA treats)...I haven't had eggs in so long I can't tell you how long it's been!! THEN I was getting my daughter ready for church last night when I spotted a HUGE tick in her hair, on her head. After a brief (silent...momma power there) freak out, I managed to pull the entire thing off her head (I bet the blow dryer heating it's butt up helped a bit - that's how I found it...blow drying her hair).

I do think I might have fainted when I saw it on her, but she was a great trooper and once it was out of her, she looked at it and declared, "bad bug". Then she waved to it as it was sent to live in the depths of the septic tank!! LOL. Maybe I need to go on strike to get these birds doing their job!!

Okay, now for a serious question (or twenty)...we will be getting 15 chicks coming up soon and I need some good suggestions on a brooder system...also, how long do they need to stay inside before it is safe for them to be in the coop with the bigger guys?!? Thanks!!

Yep, red can with a yellow top. Dust the birds, houses, and nests. Wait a week and do it again. The dust will kill all live mites within hours. Then you have to get any that hatch later.

Be sure to dust the entire bird and work it in to get to the skin. I use bare hands, but most recommend to use gloves and a mask. When I dust a bird I place the bird in it's house at first. That initial shake off the bird does helps dust the house. I have dusted a bird, but didn't do the entire bird. The mites moved up to her neck running from the dust and started again.

My problem right now is Northern Fowl mites. I hate those things. I am dusting everyone this weekend. It takes a little while to get all 100 chickens.

NH, you make sure that tick bite is noted in her medical records. I have two friends with chronic Lyme because they went undiagnosed for too long.

I'll work on those Guard Turkeys!
