Good morning,Happy Chicken People!

Cleaning out the Juvenile Detention Center today, and moving most chicks out there on Sunday. There's plenty for body warmth with the latest batch of fifty.

There were signs of something trying to get into the (unset) traps the other night. I think I'm going to invest in a motion detector video camera. Not cheap, but neither are my birds.

I have 2....although one is terrified of dogs and I am not sure about the youngest one yet... Then again she's also terrified of horses, ponies, pigs, chickens, guineas, (not ducks - don't know why), turkeys, and probably everything else that moves/breathes!! LOL...

I was thinking the same thing... HAVE vs borrow....NATURALLY it was just a slip of the tongue!!

Yes! Our first egg since November when the last of my old flock got put down. There are eight more pullets in this age range. Soon we will at least be providing for ourselves, even if I won't have enough for customers yet. No more nasty store-bought eggs! WooHoo!!!

Okay...not only am I officially jealous, but I am REALLY jealous!!

I take back my offer of using my scaredy cat of a daughter to help Levi... LOL

JK. Congratulations on your egg!! I know it's been a long time and a longer ordeal!!

Glad things are getting back to "normal" for you!!

Hubby is already outside dragging logs for our garden "fence" while I am making some oatmeal raisin granola bars for breakfast. I think I might have to make him some cookies because he won't let me help - there's a chance there is poison ivy out there and he doesn't want me exposed to it.

What a sweetie....although I suspect he doesn't want to get shown up by my MUSCLES!!

Gardening, installing solar lights in the coop...here's hoping it works!!

Good morning folks

I am slowly........very slowly.........losing that beat
upon tired feeling from all the traveling/driving.
Looks like the critters did fine while we were
gone.........got to love the fantastic SIL

who did all the chores for us.

I don't know if I will ever get warm feeling again
before summer. It was cold up in Ind. and it
seemed with so little snow cover that when
the wind was blowing it VERY cold. I know
about wind chill but it just felt even colder.

RF, I'll have to get you and your kids out for a visit! NH, exposing your dog-scared child to my pack would likely not be a good idea. Three of them would be looking down on her. Levi would already be able to wash her face. I doubt her feet would ever touch the ground at my house!

All the chores are finally done. Extra stuff on Sat mornings, and hubby left at 5:00 for Philly, so I to to do it all myself. Takes me longer, but I enjoy it, and I get to check out the critters. He never really looks at them, I don't think.

I use to think the same with my DH, but alot of times I cant slip in a new bird without him noticing within a few weeks

I have seen them in a coop with wire flooring. They don't stay in there just when they want time to be alone. She has way to many roosters. The ground is dirt on one side grass o the other. How are silkie roos far as temperant goes. Being I don't have a rooster now. He is pretty. A co-worker is hatching some buff Orp, in the spring. I want a friendly rooster not to aggressive.

My silkies are nice to people, but there's a few I have had that would put everyone else (even way bigger birds) in their place (and not just the silkie roos, hens too). I had buff orps and after the roo got to be around 2 years old, he started getting mean to people. Good luck with your choice

I've had a couple mean Buff Orp roos, but most have been wonderful. Brahma roos are also noted for being kind to humans.

My son has arrived for the day, to get his humongous tattoo worked on, so I'm dog sitting his Dusty. He's taller than Levi still, but not by much. All five dogs are wanting to play. I'd leave them outside, but Dusty will chase any bird that gets in the yard, and Levi doesn't need the example set, so they are all indoors! Regular play sessions outside will be needed, for sure! And here I am, trying to clean the house today! I guess it'll be kitchen and laundry and the rest can wait. Three English mastiffs, a Great Dane puppy and a husky mix are too much to work around!

Oh, son was drooling when he saw the calves. He can't wait for some home-grown beef!

Good afternoon to everyone ... It's a nice day outside if you find a spot out of the wind ... Mixed a little wild bird seed and steamed crimped oats in the chicken's breakfast this morning ... I think they thought it was their birthday ... They deserve a treat after all the hard work they do laying beautiful eggs ! Hope everyone has a Good Afternoon and gets outside for a little time with their chickens today !!! Take care everyone ...

Good afternoon everyone trying to get all my outdoor projects done before it warms up for the spring. Still have to finish the goat pen, put up the wood fence to section a part of the barn for turkeys and my neoghbor down the road is getting out of the chicken business, so I'm getting two of his 2x8x10ft coops. And in exchange with helping him work his garden, I get the 6 laying hens that were in those coops. He is great older gentleman and very sweet, I think he is almost 80 and still trying to run his 60 acre farm by himself, I am really enjoying helping him out, it has given meachance to learn what running alot of land is like and I get all the old timey tips he can remember and I love working with the other kinds of livestock he has and I think he enjoys the company and help.

Okay well i'm off to rally my friends to move about 20lbs of old wood into the back of the barn to make way for more projects, wish me luck!
