North Carolina

Some big ol fat flakes are falling down now. The ducks thinks it is the most fantabulous thing to ever happen. They are busy playing in the pool and making mud holes. The chickens are hiding under one of the houses looking at it like the sky is attacking them, not impressed. One of the girls is hiding in her house starting out through the window, she refuses to leave the coop.
Hope it doesn't snow for much longer.

I know, I keep seeing pics of all the new hatches and reading about how everyone is going to get new babies, too. Every Saturday is a struggle knowing that there is a flock swap going on near by. I just get twitchy, just gotta get me some too! I keep telling myself that we have some ducklings coming in a month followed with chicks a month after that. I just have to hold out a little longer but it is sooooo hard!!

I am thinkin of gettin my first bator...was lookin at this one from TSC...."Little Giant Still-Air Incubator"...what are yalls opinions?

When I first started out that's what I got. This was before I grew to rely on BYC for all my hatching decisions. You don't want to hear what I have to say about that piece of crap. Save yourself a lot of grief. It will take years off your life...I am a little more experienced now and can manage it, but still, it's a big hassle. It doesn't hold temp or humidity easily, and it can get very sketchy, especially with a beginner. I got a better incubator (much more expensive, yes, but worth it) and only use the Little Giant to hatch, and occasionally if I have too many eggs for my Hovabator. eta - my first hatch with it was good, fairly stable the whole time, all downhill after that.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do!

I have one broody hen, and if I did my math right, I should be having some chicks within the next few days. I'm so anxious! I can't wait to see how she does. She's sitting on 14 eggs!
