Anyone else having an icky day? It's raining, so automatically it's a bad day for me, as my Fibromyalgia "acts up" and I'm mostly couch bound for the day, wrapped in blankets. Aside from that, I'm having internet problems, and spent a good while this morning trying to figure out why I couldn't reply to anything on BYC. I certainly hope y'all are having a better day than me. On a happier note, I found a farm a few miles down the road from me that sells Nutrena feed at $13.30 for 50# bag of pellets, so I'm saving money on feed and getting a better quality than I was getting before with SS layer pellets.

I tried seeds one year, but they never did well. Any suggestions?
We always do seeds. Start them inside, and don't do all the seeds you have. If you need to do it again you can. Some things you will need to wait and direct sow. If you use the seed trays with all the inch to inch and a half diameter cells, don't pour water over top, rather under from the bottom tray. Only cover seeds with as much medium as the size of the seed is a general rule. Larger seeds can be soaked over night before potting in starter mix, but do not have to.Put in a dark room place for germination, and check each day.

I don't know if this is too much info, or not enough, but this works for most. I still have difficulty with tiny lavender & chamomile seeds. Other herbs and tomatoes, salads are fine. Don't let them over stay in the starter tray.

Wild: if you have already talked to them about keeping him out of your yard and they are aware, they are responsible liable for the dog. He IS their responsibility! There is still the fine line between our rights as livestock owners, and animal cruelty rights. But you know where I stand when an animal is on my property and killing mine. Even if I did break down like a baby and sit there crying . I don't take joy in it, but it had to be done.

Chicken news- three hens left yesterday, and she told me that she already got a blue egg! I think that the chciken math hit her... she went and got ducks too. ...and now planning another coop. I did not mean to start this, but still happy.. The parents to these hens give me plenty of EE babys, and I know that I cannot use them for more blue egg layers for ever. Great right now though!
Wild Thing is always happy to spread his love around the hen house

CricketR, if you have a moment, could you tell me the name and address of the place you found that feed?

I have potato, radish, carrots, and green beans in the ground. After talking to beth she had said something about growing potatos in tires and i did some research and i am trying that method just with wood boxes and every time the plant grows you ad a box and fill with dirt they say you can grow 100lbs this way. We will see... also picked up a shipping crate yesterday about to start small coop today will post some pics as i go!

Very cool idea about the potatoes.

I have started seeds inside and starting more today and this weekend.

Absolutely! It's Morris Meadows Farm, 4191 Dickie Mill Rd, Mebane. Address says Mebane, but it's in between Mebane and Burlington. They also have a website to show some of what they offer: morrismeadows.com
