Blue frizzle is NOT for sale..my DD would cry her eyes out !! Those are what colors I have. I can hatch chicks for anyone interested.

I do have a blue smooth rooster....well I am 90% sure it is a rooster. Hatched around Thanksgiving.
He is being sold with a black hen, she has a birchen spot on her neck, hatched same time...I can get pics today.
How much for the Blue Smooth Roo? How old is he? Do you have to sell him with the hens? Im lookin for just a roo....

Is anyone going to the big chicken show at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds this weekend? I think it is put on by the Forsyth Fowl Fanciers Assoc....??? Not sure of the times. Angela

From what Tena said this show is going to be larger then usual. The judging starts at 9am. All birds have to be cooped in by then. Before that, if you are not showing, try to stay outside the show hall. Their building is rather small for 1200+ birds and there is no room to move around. The 80+ exhibitors need to get their birds prepped and in the show cages.

I will be there from 8am till around Noon. This is the first show I will be able to get to this year. Just look for the extremely fat, short, balding guy in shorts. Depending on how warm it is, I may have a jacket on.

Hi everyone! We brought home our ladies (12 weeks old) home this past weekend and they love their new home (I think). We are so new to this so I have a few questions. First, we bought some eggs from the farm that we purchased the pullets from. They said they will keep at room temperature for 3 weeks. My MIL then warned me about the dangers of salmonella, young children and no way would she not refrigerate her eggs. So what do you do? How do you weigh the risks and benefits of farm fresh eggs? Second, the ladies do not seem to be roosting properly at night, they are jumping all over each other, some sleep on the bottom of the coop. Will this behavior change as they get more comfortable? My husband put in the roosting bars in a criss cross fashion, should they be more like a ladder? How far is too high up? Third, its been kinda chilly here, we have four windows in the coop and the first night they were all sitting by the coop door because they were too hot? so we opened the windows. I know that they create a lot of moisture and that will trap heat but I don't want them to be too cold. I am sure I will have many more questions and I have extensively read other threads, just wanted to get some feedback.

Thanks

Anyone ever hear of someone being allergic to free range, fresh from the farm eggs, but not allergic to store bought, old eggs? My (well meaning nurse) mother thinks I'm only allergic to MY chickens and ducks eggs, and that I should buy store bought eggs and try one of them. She thinks I might be reacting to something I'm feeding my girls. I've explained the intense amounts of pain and discomfort I'm in whenever I eat anything with egg in it, and she still thinks it's worth the risk to try a store bought egg. Any thoughts?

if the eggs aint been washed you should be ok, just wash before use and cook right. young birds like to "dog pile" in a corner. They will grow out of it. If they are hot they wont "dog pile"

I keep all my eggs at room temp. Never had a problem with them (at least my family hasn't, I however have developed an allergy to eggs) going bad or family getting sick. But, I also use up my eggs (or did) faster than three weeks, so...

From a baking standpoint, it's better to keep them at room temp. Your baked goods just come out so much better.

You may not be allgeric to the egg its self, you may be allgeric to something in the feed.
NH on here, her DD is allgeric to soy, so she must fee the chickens soy free feed, so that the eggs won't contain any soy.
Your best bet is to go to a doctor and have them perform an allergy skin test on food by products that might be in you eggs that you could be allgeric to.
:fl I hope its not the eggs
