North Carolina

I enjoyed meeting you two! So sorry for the...ummmm...distraction. CSB got that one, too.

That distraction is enough to keep me away from that swap.
Made it VERY hard to talk to folks and pestered the turkey
to the point of panting and getting overly hot. I like the other
swap much better.
Well...it was really...eerrrraaah....an interesting loud whirlwind.

Sorry about Bob, he sounded like a real sweet tom.

Well, when I went out to feed and do chores, poor ole Bob was on his back. We righted him, but he stumbles about and ends back on his back. As soon as it's late enough not to disturb people, hubby will shoot our poor old turkey. Bob would have been eight years old next month. He's the oldest guy on the place.

And with him gone, I will be selling all the rest of the turkeys. I only kept them for company for Bob. Perhaps a new start with a new breed is what I should try. Or just no turkeys at all.

I've known we'd be losing Bob this year, but I thought he'd have a bit more time. I'm sad. Toss a handful of scratch to your birds in memory of the best tom turkey ever! Bob has allowed a school group of fourth graders to line up and pet him, has played tag with the dogs and seemed to enjoy it, reaaallly enjoyed sneaking up on a sleeping dog and goosing him, and when he was younger would jump into my lap if I sat on a lawn chair outside. I'm gonna miss the old guy.

Sorry to hear about Bob... Hope your week gets better... Thanks again for the raspberry plants. You have a great place... Again sorry for your loss...

Yesterday a friend of mine sent a very nice lady my way, with a pet she could no longer care for. As she got out of the car, leash in hand, I thought 'O no, I can't not take another dog' (as I seem to be ppopular with strays and unwanted dogs). The woman came around the car and lo and behold...... meet Willa

It was nice to meet you and your family! I would have liked to offer to show you around a bit, but with the mud and y'all coming straight from church in nice clothes, I figured that was a poor mix! Perhaps another time. :) It seems you are close enough to come back for just a visit...or to dig your blackberry starts!

$3/doz seems high.  People don't mind spending that much?  I am in Hickory, NC and do not have eggs yet - hopefully by mid June and with 7 girls, I think I will need to sell some.  Hoping I have "7" by then.  I have that one runt with the scissor beak so every day she is around is a blessing.
Gonna see if my paramedic friend who works part-time for a vet will cut her bottom beak and see if that helps. We have a large feeder that you fill and it filters down to an open ring around the bottom with dividers.  She was loosing her neck feathers from poking her head inside the "chick" tray type feeder.  Now she hops up on the rim of the regular feeder and goes round and round eating and eating.  If she makes it to laying age, her eggs will probably be small.  She doesn't mind me holding her like she use to.  Glad that the other girls don't try to irritate her.

I'm not sure where you are in North Carolina. But I'm here in Rocky Mount. And an hour farmers market chicken eggs sale for 3 dollars and 50 cents. There have been duck eggs but I don't know what they would charge.

I looked at Walmart for comparison- their free-range/cage-free were over $3. I charged $3 without a carton and $3.50 if I provided the carton, since that's what they cost me.

I haven't had any eggs to sell here yet, so we'll see. I knew someone before we moved who tried to sell his really cheap and people wouldn't buy them. I personally thought it was because they were too cheap which left people wondering what was wrong with them...........
